Tic Tac DS Game Case
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Accessories, Mods/Hacks, Nintendo DS, Portable/Mobile,
This past weekend I was in the need for a case for the few DS games I own, and luckily a Tic Tac case was nearby. After removing the Tic Tac wrapper and cleaning up the case a little bit, I was left with a carrying case that was perfect for toting 3 Nintendo DS games. It’s almost like all of these mint manufacturers plan for the re-use of their cases in the gaming community, what with the Altoids PSP game cases and all.

Xbox Live Anywhere Screenshots Emerge
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Portable/Mobile, Screenshots, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox Live Marketplace,
Xbox Live Anywhere screenshots have surfaced in the TeamXbox forums where Captain Panic was able to post images of Live Anywhere running on BREW. The images show the ability to queue up downloads for both your Xbox 360 and PC, messaging people on your friends list, and downloading an arcade game. Screenshots also show the ability to view your achievement points! It is not yet known if completing an XBLA game on your phone will result in gaining those achievement points on your Gamertag.
One interesting screenshot shows the ability to buy a pass to all games from a certain publisher on a monthly basis for $3.95. Could this signal a subscription plan for XBLA too? I for one would welcome a $3.95 monthly charge for Xbox 360, PC and mobile versions of the same game, especially if this included a subscription to the publisher’s entire library. We’ll keep you up to date as new info emerges.

Mizuguchi Speaks on Lumines
Posted by George Hatzidimitriou Categories: Corporate News, PlayStation 2, Portable/Mobile, PSP, Strategy, Xbox Live Arcade,
Game Informer has put up an interview with Tetsuya Mizuguchi, founder of Q Entertainment and of Lumines and Rez fame. Mizuguchi speaks at length on the four(!) upcoming versions of Lumines in the works. First up, is Lumines Live, an Xbox Live Arcade version of the title in which a plethora of skins, music tracks and various other features such as online ranking and versus mode will be constantly added and made available via the Xbox Live marketplace. No exact details were given yet, but Mizugiuchi mentions seasonal skins/music and confirms Madonna as being on the soundtrack. Next is Lumines Mobile, which has been licensed to Buena Vista Games and is being developed by Gameloft. Also mentioned is Lumines Plus a more or less direct port of Lumines to the Playstation 2. While Lumines Plus will feature a few unspecified new additions, online play has yet to be determined. Finally, Mizuguchi divulges some new info on Lumines 2, the sequel to the original PSP Lumines. Lumines 2 is set to feature over 100 songs by artists of various genres, full motion video, and a brand new mission mode. He also mentions the development of a Disney themed version of Meteos, possibly with online play and muses about the possibility of Lumines on the Playstation 3. Overall, it looks as though we’ll have no shortage of Lumines titles in the coming summer/fall seasons.

Today Core Design disappointed Tomb Raider fanboys worldwide today when they formally announced that Lara Croft won’t be coming to the PSP. Core Design confirmed that latest Lara Croft adventure had been in progress, but a recent assessment by SCi Entertainment, the new owner of Edios, called for the project to be cancelled. The game was set to be a remake of the original Tomb Raider called Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition. 1Up raises a good point by questioning the decision to scrap Tomb Raider while Edios went ahead with Reservoir Dogs the Game. Many fans of Lara will miss this remake
port, but the PSP needs another port like Duke Nukem Forever needs another delay.

Clinical Trial On The Effects of Gameboy Before Surgery
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Culture, Nintendo, Nintendo Gamecube, Portable/Mobile,
Young patients in New Jersey may have something to look forward to for calming their nerves soon. As part of a clinical trial, the New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry is testing the effects of playing Gameboy games before surgery on levels of anxiety. The researchers theorize that playing Gameboy before surgery might be as effective as certain anti-anxiety drugs in helping young patients cope with stress.
There seems to be a lot of interest among the medical community these days into the uses in videogames in hospital environments. With studies possibly showing that doctors should play Super Monkey Ball before operating and children should play Gameboy before surgery, maybe we can look forward to a day where gaming consoles are a standard fixture in doctors’ offices.

An entire shipment of black Nintendo DS Lite units was stolen on the way to the exclusive European release. The shipment was stolen in Hong Kong and is valued at 2.32 Million dollars. Officials believe that the units are currently being sold on the black market, and are offering a $128,831 USD reward for information about the heist. If the missing units were valued at US retail price that would amount to roughly 17,829 missing DS Lite units. At this point it is unclear what effect this will have on the European launch which is set for June 23rd.

Nintendo DS Lite Wrist Strap Available
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Accessories, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Portable/Mobile,
One of Nintendo DS Lite owner’s biggest complaints has been that the DS Lite does not come with a wrist strap like the original DS did. The strap was not only useful for quickly grabbing your DS or toting it around, but for writing on the touchscreen as well. The end of the wrist strap had a small stylus that is perfect for the sliding requirements of many mini games and a convenient way to keep your touchscreen fingerprint free. Fear not wrist strap lovers, Nintendo sells the strap in the replacement section of their website. A replacement wrist strap is $3.95 with $2 for shipping. While it would be great to have it included in the original package, $6 is not too much to get the wrist strap/stylus fix you need. You can also pick up a replacement battery for $15 or a original rumble pack for $9.99.

Un-named New PSP Title by Take2 Planned for 2006
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Corporate News, Portable/Mobile, PSP,
It’s always sad to see that one of the top game makers out there can’t turn a profit…even with hits like The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Grand Theft Auto, Take2 has taken a profit hit this quarter, which probably has to do with some of the recent FTC hullaballoo. However, there was some good news in Take2’s earning reports, including the announcement of a second PSP title in development, in addition to the already-mentioned Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Straight from the press release:
Additional products planned for 2006 from Rockstar Games include Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for the PSP, scheduled for October release, an additional PSP title based on another premier brand, and Bully.
