Animasher Screen Shot

We first told you about Animasher in May but were cautioned by co-creator Martin Jacobson that we got a little too excited too soon. However, he let us know that the Beta launch is now official. Simply choose pictures, drag and drop, add music and sound effects, and you could be the next Monty Python or JibJab rival.

We understand that the Animasher originated in Sweden when Martin’s programmer friend Samuel wanted to make fun of him online. Nine months later, Animasher was born. It must be some friendship to inspire an entire website, eh?

(Thanks, Martin)

iArthouseNow that Netflix has cut back on Indy cinema, this might be a good time to check out iArthouse. They have over 800 international and arthouse films and plan thousands by the end of the year. They offer ad-supported free streaming video, subscription, and download-to-burn options. Download their free StreamBurner software and start shopping from film companies such as Vanguard Cinema and Arts Alliance America. We really dig that they offer online free screenings of such classics as “M,” Hitchcock’s “39 Steps,” and “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”

(Thanks, Kristin)

India PCs

India has agreed to work on the planet’s cheapest laptop. The Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari says that the country will try to develop $10.00 units for school kids. Back in 2006, the Indian Government decided not to go for the OLPC program but seems to have changed its mind. The project will be funded by the Reliance Anil Dhirubahi Group and will launch in Maharashtra’s Khairat village. They are hoping to cover about 25,000 towns 6,000 villages by the end of this year.

Torch DriveMascot Flash Drive

Wonder how China will be able to pay for all that high-tech stuff from the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Summer Olympics? Aside from tickets, Lenovo has become the official drive designer/manufacturer. Their Limited Edition 4BG thumb drive is made from the same material as the torch and goes for a whopping $980.00. Their Mascot series of 4GB flash drives have a Fuwa image on the front and one has the logo. The set is available for a less expensive $199.99.

Barack Obama SMS

Whether you like him or you don’t, you have got to hand it to Barack Obama and the things his campaign is doing to reach potential voters and get them engaged. Case in point, his using SMS as a marketing tool. You see, Obama is set to announce his running mate between now and the Democratic Convention. That’s a given. However, instead of just leaving it at that, he is inviting his supporters (or, really, anyone) to sign up so that they can get an email and/or SMS the moment that the announcement is made. From the site:

Barack is about to choose a running mate, and he wants you to know first. You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be part of this important moment.

Sign up today and we’ll send you an email announcing Barack’s running mate.

You can also text VP to 62262 to receive a text message on your mobile phone.

How’s that for using today’s technology to reach out? Meanwhile, McCain is still trying to grasp just what the Internet is.

R/C ZombieAdmit it. You are the first to run to any new Zombie movie. Now you can terrorize your friends, co-workers, and pets with your own RC undead toy. He stands 7 3/4-inches and you can activate him by simply pressing a button on the brain-shaped remote. Once revived, he will drag himself around while moving his neck, shoulders, and hips, and, as a bonus, will moan a bit. The remote controlled ghoulie needs three AAA batteries (not included) to work and comes with a MSRP of $24.95.

SnagIt

SnagIt 9 works like your regular screen capture but it certainly is a lot easier. The software lets you grab a shot, store it in a media library, or turn it into a graphic. Then share by adding it to your document, presentation, etc. You can combine images by simple drag and drop. SnagIt includes arrow, callouts, and color fill, and more to tidy them up. TechSmith is offering their products at prices beginning at $49.95 or try it free for 30 days. Oddly enough, we had to use our own screen capture to grab an image of the box.
