Running Windows in OS X is still cool, even if software like Parallels, VMware Fusion, and Boot Camp have been around for a while. Now though, Fusion has hit 2.0, which is a nice milestone. Performance improvements, better multi-monitor support, and more robust Unity features (that’s the feature that lets you “erase” the Windows desktop, so that your Windows programs appear right next to your OS X ones) make this a worthy upgrade. Here are the details:

- Mac OS X Leopard Server now is supported in a virtual machine on Mac hardware
If you already have a copy of Fusion 1.x running, you’ll be happy to know that this is a free upgrade. Otherwise, you can pick up Fusion 2.0 for $79.

Time to fire up Software Update yet again, as Apple has just pushed out the latest update to Leopard, 10.5.5. There’s a lot here, but being the email warriors that we are, seeing all the Mail.app improvements makes us just a tad bit exited. We are also into the MobileMe fixes as well. Gotta love the cloud. In any event, hit the jump to get the full list of updates. If you don’t care, then you can just be assured by this nugget from Apple:

Jailbreak iPhone 2.1 with PwnageTool and QuickPWN

Since everything and their mother has been writing in requesting follow-up on the iPod touch 2.1 jailbreak, we figured we’d better respond. Latest is that you can now jailbreak iPhone 2.1 as well, and the GUI version of the iPod touch 2.1 firmware is available as well (thanks for letting us know, QuickPWN!). The one thing that isn’t yet done is the jailbreak of the newer iPod touch 2G, but that is only because no one on the Dev Team has happened to pick one up yet. I’m sure we’ll be seeing it in the next few days. You just can’t keep these guys down.

Woman in Legal Battle with UMP Over YouTube Clip

Stephanie Lenz uploaded a 30 second clip of her toddler son dancing to Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy” to share with family and friends back in February 2007. Universal Music Publishing insisted the music was “not authorized by the copyright owner” and asked that it be removed. To make a long story short, Stephanie is now involved in a lengthy legal battle, backed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The clip has received almost 700,000 hits because of the publicity.
We know how she feels. We were recently notified that a video we shot of the Village People was taken down from YouTube after it was considered to be a copyright infringement. Considering they only have one surviving member singing in the group, you think they would have appreciated the extra publicity.

Sony iPhone/iPod ZS-S4iP Boombox

Sony has a new iPhone/iPod Boombox. The ZS-S4iP has a tray to insert the music maker while charging and includes a remote. When you want to retrieve it, you simply push “eject.” It also has 2 2.0 W speakers, an AM/FM tuner with up to 30 presets, ID3 tag support, and a headphone port. Available in both black and white, the price estimate on the device is ~$140.00 with an expected October arrival.

Baby Bidou apparently believes in getting kids used to electronics when they have barely left the crib. Displayed at the recent Kind + Jugend 2008 in Cologne, Germany, their MP3 Teddy Bear meets toy safety standards for ages 36 months to 5 years. The player is cordless (batteries not included) and has a built-in loudspeaker. Available in blue, pink, or non-gender specific beige/caramel, you can purchase one online for 69.99€ (~$100.00.) The site also offers music and story downloads recommended for that age group, although it will play any MP3 tunes.

RIM Blackberry Pearl 8220

RIM has announced the flip version of its BlackBerry Pearl. At a size of 3.98 x 1.97 x .69-inches and a weight of 3.6 oz., the 8220 smartphone features video and music player, a 2 megapixel cam with flash, WiFi, video streaming, and Web browser. The handheld also has an abridged keyboard with SureType technology and Spellcheck. Look for it sometime this fall, with T-Mobile as the U.S. carrier.
By the way, Co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie, said that 70% of mobile phone users in the U.S. use a flip phone. That seems reason enough for us.

PURE i-10 iPod Dock

PURE has unveiled its i-10 for iPods and iPhones. Available with 9 different adapters, it can be used with all of the company’s speaker systems with its auxiliary input or others with 3.5mm stereo input. Needless to say, it doubles as a dock. The i-10 comes with remote for easy control and navigation and comes with a black and silver finish. Available at PURE’s online store in October, pre-order for a £29.99 (~$53.00) price tag.

Onkyo TX-NR906 and TX-SR876 THX Ultra2 Plus receivers released

Onkyo has just released a couple of new high-end THX Ultra2 receivers upon us all, in their TX-NR906 and TX-SR876 units. Both units feature 7.1-channel surround processing, four HDMI inputs, new THX Loudness Plus processing, XM HD, and the fantastic HQV Reon-VX upscaling processor. These bad boys will upconvert just about anything you throw at it to 1080p. In terms of audio, your got both units conservatively rated - the TX-SR876 is at 140 watts per channel, while the TX-NR906 hits you with 145 watts per channel. The TX-NR906 specifically is also Windows Vista certified, and supports digital audio devices (like the Zune) by way of its front USB port. You can also stream a bunch of audio formats on your local network to it, as well as streaming Internet radio, including SIRIUS iRadio.
Both models are available now. Suggested retail comes out to $1,799 for the TX-SR876, and $2,299 for the TX-NR906, but we are sure you can find them for a lot less if you do a little shopping around. Be sure to also hit up our Onkyo TX-SR906 image gallery.
