Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, PC / Laptop, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
Onkyo’s subsidiary Sotec has come up with an E7 series media center computer that we are surprised Apple didn’t come up with first. The PC has an iPod dock built-in. In addition, it has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 processor at 2.53 Ghz, a 21.6-inch LCD (1680 × 1050p,) up to 500GB hard drive, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. Also included is a DVD multi-drive and SD card reader. The E7 package comes with wireless keyboard and mouse, speakers, and remote. Expect it next month in Japan for ¥144,800 (~$1,450.00.)

You that 2G iPod touch that Apple was all excited about, being that it’s the thinnest iPod touch ever (despite being only the second one ever made)? We figured you guys might be interested in having us take a bunch of unboxing images of the one that just got delivered here to Gear Live HQ. Yeah, this thing is thin, and if you don’t already have a first-gen iPod touch, you should seriously look into this model if you’ve been waiting one. It’s a nice improvement over the original. Check out the rest of the images over at our iPod touch 2G unboxing gallery.

We are sure that by now everyone has seen the incredible impression that Tina Fey did on last week’s SNL, but you might have missed a performance on MadTV last weekend of Keegan-Michael Key doing Barack Obama. While we couldn’t find the original skit, we did manage to grab a clip by Young Hollywood.com interviewing the “Fauxbarack.” Eerie, isn’t it?
By the way, don’t you think that Peggy Hill looks a lot like Sarah Palin, too?

New Zealand Bible Society Church hits Second Life
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Misc. Tech, Video Games,
Several ministries in New Zealand have decided that praying online is cool. The Rev. Paul Stanaway claims that much of his work is done with younger members through texting and plans a website where followers can light a virtual candle or go in a private chatroom for counseling. Rev. Wally Behan streams sermons via his website and claims that he gets thousands of hits per week. Mark Brown of the Bible Society created a cathedral last year in Second Life. Rev. Bosco Peters also has a site with a reported 1000 hits per day and twice that on holidays. We expect that if God truly exists everywhere, she/he wouldn’t mind.

The Canadian company CellWand Communications has teamed with Single Touch Systems to allow AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, and Alltel Wireless customers a new service. It is almost too simple. Need a cab? Press #TAXI on your cell phone. Already successful in Canada, ST’s CEO Anthony Macaluso calls it “like 911 for a taxicab.” The new service is pay per use with Alltel and Verizon subscribers coughing up $1.50 per call, while AT&T users will pay $1.79. Other carriers may be added later this year.

Free Wi-Fi access for Zune at McDonalds
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Microsoft, Music, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
Now that you know about the new Zune and are thinking about grabbing one, here’s another reason. Microsoft and Wayport, the network provider of McDonald’s, have made a deal to give Zune owners free WiFi over the next three years. You may not be able to check your email, but you can order tunes to go with your fries. This works on pre-existing Zunes as well. Sony’s Mylo COM-2 and Zipit Wireless Messenger Z2 can also receive the WiFi.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Full Episodes, Gizmatic, Design, Features, Home Entertainment, PC / Laptop, Peripherals, Podcasts, Videocasts, Videos,
HP just unleashed a couple of new notebooks earlier today, including their new 16- and 18-inch HDX units, just in time for the holiday season. We were able to spend some time with HP’s Kevin Wentzel to get a look at the entire consumer notebook lineup for this holiday season. It features the aforementioned HDX, a new HP Imprint finish for the dv5 and dv7 Pavilions, and their tablet as well. These things are affordable, and some are even powerful enough to replace your desktop at this point. In fact, we also have a look at HP’s notebook docking station as well, which fits right in with that line of thinking.
Hit the video for the full scoop on everything, and try not to droll over those hot-looking HDXs, mkay?
