Weekend Reading: Spider-Man, Cyberforce, and Norm Breyfogle

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Conventions, Editorials, Movies, Reviews, Image Comics,
This is the week where the comics industry slows down for a couple of days as everyone saves their big news for Comic Con International in San Diego. That gets going on Wednesday evening - Preview Night - and you can expect the announcements to start flying faster than anyone can cut and paste a press release, and everyone's abuzz with their favorite version of the four Spider-Man movies.
For now, though, the internets still have some things to read:
A weather-battered Beau Smith looks at Spider-Man.
Longbox Graveyard also has a look at Spider-Man, of the Steve Ditko era.
Hero Complex reports the return of Marc Silvestri’s Cyberforce, with the words “Kickstarter” and “free” as part of the launch equation.

Pink Nokia Lumia 900 hits AT&T stores July 15th

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Design, Microsoft,
Today Nokia revealed the pink Lumia 900 Windows Phone device. Set to launch on July 15th, it'll cost $99 with two-year contract like the white, black, and cyan hues of the device. This one is an AT&T exclusive for the time being, so if you're interested, mosey on over to your nearest AT&T store this Sunday to grab one. Remember, these won't be upgradable to Windows Phone 8, but Windows Phone 7.8 will provide many of the visual features that 8 will bring anyway.

The sequel to one of the most popular iOS games of all time, Tiny Wings, is set to hit the App Store in just six days. Yep--on July 12th, Tiny Wings 2 will be available for download, and to get you hyped, developer Andreas Illiger has put together the homemade teaser trailer that you'll find after the break. Unfortunately, the video doesn't give any hints as to new gameplay mechanics or other features, or even if this will be an update to the existing app, or a new, separate game altogether. Still, we won't have to wait long to get the answer--Tiny Wings 2 arrives in under a week.

Our friends over at TekZilla were able to get their hands on the Panasonic TC-P65VT50, and they're calling it the absolute best HDTV that you can buy this year. The plasma display offers amazing, inky blacks alongside automated greyscale setup. Of course, this is the top of the line in Panasonic's flagship VT series of high definition television sets, and is therefore THX 3D certified to boot. The set also supports automatic calibration, as demonstrated in the video with CalMAN software. Lastly, the included remote control is top-notch, featuring touch controls similar to a trackpad.
All in all, if you are looking for the best HDTV that you can buy (and arguably, the best HDTV manufactured to date,) you'll wanna seriously consider the Panasonic TC-P65VT50.

AT&T will block stolen phones and tablets starting next week

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News,
In a bold (and welcome) move, AT&T will be instituting a new policy that will block stolen devices from connecting to its network, utilizing a new database that the carrier will manage.
As announced in April, AT&T is creating a stolen phone database to prevent devices reported stolen from accessing wireless networks. We will install this availability next week for AT&T phones on our network and are working toward a cross-carrier solution later this year.
Any stolen phone or cellular tablet device may be added to the stolen database, and only the person who requested that a device be added may have it reinstated.

Xbox Live is down

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,
Xbox Live has been down for the past 90 minutes or so, and Microsoft says it's doing its best to bring the service back online.
The outage appears to affect many (if not all) Xbox Live regions, as complains are coming in from outside of the United States as well. Users who were connected to the service were disconnected from Xbox Live at the time of the outage, so this isn't just an issue where new players aren't able to connect.
As soon as Xbox Live is back, we'll update to let you know.

Archos Carbon 97 tablet: 9.7-inch display, Android 4.0, $249.99

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Google, Handhelds,
Archos has announced the Carbon 97, a new, 9.7-inch tablet that ships running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The IPS display has a resolution of 1024 x 768, and it packs a 1 GHz ARM processor and 1 GB RAM on the inside. You get front- and rear-facing cameras and 16 GB of storage space (which you can expand with a microSD card, if you'd like.) The most surprising part of this, though, is the fact that the Archos Carbon 97 will sell for just $249.99. To put that in perspective, that's the price you'd pay for a Nexus 7 tablet, and the Carbon 97 has a much larger display. You'll be able to pick one up later this month.
