Redesigned Apple headphones appear on video

The fine folks at Tinh Tê have managed to snag what appears to be a new, redesigned pair of the iconic Apple earphones. The alleged iPhone earphones appear cone-shaped, perhaps so they may fit snugly in the ear canal. Good news to all small-eared readers out there: this redesign would probably keep them from popping out while bumping to music, or running with the Nike+ app. If the redesign turns out to be true, they would be a welcome addition to be included with the next-generation iPhone. All the rumors are pointing to a  September 12 Apple iPhone announcement. Thanks to Google translate, it is understood that the earphones are more compact than previous models. According to the reports, the sound quality is much improved and the bass is significantly louder. Video after the break!

Comic Book Jobs: Comixology

First up is a position for Product Manager.

Next is Product Director.

Then there's an opening for Production Manager.

Followed by one for a UX Manager, and I don't even know what that is. But it sounds very computery.

And so does the opening for System Administrator Manager.

Purported black matte iPhone 5 appears on video

We've already shown you how the next-generation iPhone 5 will look like in a 3D video illustration. Now, a purported black iPhone 5 with what was referred to as a back "matte" finish just debuted on YouTube. The iPhone 4S is compared to the alleged new iPhone, and the latter looks considerably thinner and taller. The dummy device even turned on and displayed the famous "Connect to iTunes" message. If we had to guess, we'd bet you're probably sitting down right now. The problem is that sitting down for extended periods of time, all day every day, may be killing us. You may have heard of stand-up desks, and maybe even know someone who works in an office where this is an option. They don't choose these just to be different--the goal is to keep your metabolism, and muscle electrical activity performing optimally. This is where GeekDesk comes in. The company sells two different models of desks that allow the user to stand or sit--the best of both worlds. We received the GeekDesk Max for review, and it just so happens that this feature would turn out to be more than a simple Gear Live gadget review. Sure, sitting down may be killing us, but my story isn't about life expectancy, but rather bad posture and what I referred to as "my pinch" for at least 6 months. This is how the 4-inch iPhone 5 display will likely function (video)

The guys at MacRumors have done a fantastic job at illustrating how the alleged next iPhone would look like with its new taller screen and how the aspect ratios of movies and apps would utilize and benefit from the extra display real estate. Purported leaked parts indicate that the next iPhone will adopt a 1136x640, 3.99-  or 4-inch screen with a pixel count of roughly about the same as the iPhone 4 and 4S Retina display of 329dpi, give or take a pixel or two. Tweetbot for Mac 0.8.0 beta now available

Tweetbot for Mac is progressing quite nicely, and today has moved from alpha to beta with the release of version 0.8.0. Unfortunately, thanks to Twitter's new asinine rules for developers, only those who has already authorized Twitter for Mac to be used with their Twitter accounts can use the app, so if you weren't an alpha user, then this won't do anything for you. Here are the changes and improvements that are found in Tweetbot 0.8.0:

• lots of bug fixes
• can paste images into new tweet window again
• can copy tweets on timeline
• can do ‘open in new column’ (they also have keyboard shortcuts)
• multi-column swiping and keyboard support much improved. Use tab shift/tab to move between columns.
• better keyboard support: status detail + many other views
• profile view: can scroll user information so can see more tweets
• drag and drop tweets has been improved
• gap loading works properly now
• context click on tweet action buttons in timeline
• did I mention we fixed a bunch of bugs too?

e-Book publishers shell out $69 million in price-fixing allegation case

In the midst of Apple and ebook publishers collusion allegations brought forth by the Department of Justice (DoJ), Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley (Democrat), is tossing in her hat by filing a civil antitrust lawsuit. Three book publishers are shelling out over $69 million, $2 million of which is going to Massachusetts customers, to settle out of court. The ongoing lawsuit alleges that Apple got together with publishers and devised a plan to raise ebook prices in Apple's own iBookstore, which is in direct competition with Amazon's Kindle ebook store. Amazon is known for selling it's ebooks at rock-bottom prices, often at the expense of publishers and authors. So, although it appears that the DoJ's lawsuit greatly benefits consumers, who it really benefits is Amazon. Look at it this way: Amazon makes its lion share of money from many different sources, therefore, it can afford to sell ebooks at a loss since consumers buying through Amazon Kindle are exposed to advertisement promoting everything else they sell. Meanwhile, other booksellers are going out of business unable to compete, inadvertently creating a monopoly where Amazon reigns supreme. In the long run, who is this really benefiting? The way I see it, the DoJ lawsuit, although good intentioned, will eventually have the opposite effect of what its trying to achieve; and while now it appears to benefit consumers, in the end, Amazon wins.

Ebook publishers Macmillan and Penguin have not settled and Apple vowed to fight the allegations in court.
