Everyone we know has been thoroughly impressed with the way that iRobot’s Roomba vacuum cleaners work. Now, the company forays even deeper into robotic home cleaning with their new mop. The Scooba functions in a similar fashion as the Roomba, with a few key differences. The way it works is the Scooba will vacuum up the floor, spray foam scrub onto the tile or other surface, scrub it up, then dry the floor. There is no price set yet and it’s looking like it might only be a limited time deal around the holidays.

Even with the great success of Episode III, we know that one of the biggest reasons we go to see a Star Wars movie, play a Star Wars game, or buy one of the DVD’s is to be part of a great lightsaber battle. We all want one (just listen to your inner geek), and one day - who knows - it may be possible. Wikipedia gives us some background on several aspects of the lightsaber that you may not have known.

In an interesting turn of events, it looks like Michael Jackson may have sold his Neverland Ranch to a silent buyer for about $35 million. I remember as a child wshing I could visit the Ranch - after all, it had its own zoo, amusement park, trolley, etc. Looking back, I think it’s safe to say that it is good that I was never able to make the trip. This is one example of technology gone bad.

It is stuff like this that convinces me that the world is going downhill fast - but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy it. Case in point, this Fish Stick Frying Pan. I mean, you look at it and you can just tell that you won’t be able to use this for anything but fish sticks - it is both sad and exciting all at once.

We spoke with Kingston Technology earlier this evening at eFocus, where they were giving the details on their Secure Digital Card product line addition. The new Ultimate SD cards will ship at 512 MB and 1 GB capacities to start, but I am sure a 2 GB version isn’t too far away. The new SD Ultimate cards offer significant performance benefits over the current Standard and Elite Pro lines of SD cards, including 133X transfer rates of larger size files. This is great for the rapid shooting demands of professional digital photography.
“Kingston developed the SD Ultimate line to give pro users and serious digital enthusiasts a greater array of choices for their digital media,” said Mike Kuppinger, senior product manager, Kingston. “Our SD Ultimate cards provide superb performance to help users optimize their high-end digital equipment—whether it’s a digital camera, MP3 player or PDA,” continued Kuppinger.
The 512 MB cards will retail for $72 USD, whereas the 1 GB flavor will go for $164 USD. Kingston confirmed that the Ultimate SD Card line will soon be followed by an Ultimate Compact Flash card line with similar speed increases.
New Airport Screening Machine Will Have You Bare It All

Posted by Jesse Easley Categories: Misc. Tech,
With Airport screening at an all time high, the TSA is looking at implementing a new type of screening technology called “backscatter,” to make it easier for the Screening Agents to locate any dangerous hidden weapons. Great Idea you say? Well, the downside to this technology is that as you are screened by this great invention you are practically being eyed up by the agents. Yes, this controversial technology not only makes it easy to find hidden objects you might have, it makes it so the agents can see through ALL of your clothes. The TSA plans to deploy this technology in several airports, but are not saying where and when. Some say this is an invasion of personal privacy and I agree. What do you all think? Reply with your thoughts.

Would you believe it? Think about the possibilities this holds for the tech sector… No more replacing the battery in your laptop… your cell phone… your gameboy… Just one battery that lasts and lasts, thanks to the modern implementation of nuclear power by way of harnessing the power of radioactive decay. I keep hoping that nuclear power will someday become a viable alternative to traditional power sources, and with the knowlege we have now I think it may happen within my lifetime.
A new type of battery based on the radioactive decay of nuclear material is 10 times more powerful than similar prototypes and should last a decade or more without a charge, scientists announced this week.
This is one of the most awesome things we’ve ever read.

Aera Corp. Selling Tickets To Space Starting Thursday

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Misc. Tech,
Without even having flown a spaceship yet, Aera Corp. plans on selling tickets to outer space at $150,000 a pop starting this Thursday. Actually, you can consider it to be a pre-order program, as flights won’t start leaving the ground for another year and a half or so. The company plans to begin testing in August 2006 at Cape Canaveral, and begin commercial flight in December of the same year.
Aera’s tour package would include a week of spaceflight training in the Orlando area and Cape Canaveral, climaxing with a flight aboard the company’s computer-controlled Altairis rocket to a height of more than 80 miles (128 kilometers). At that altitude, passengers would feel a few minutes of weightlessness and glimpse the curvature of the earth below the blackness of space. A parachute system would make for a soft landing at the end of the trip.
Grab your credit card, and hit up AeraSpaceTours.com to reserve your spot. If you want to get on the initial flight, expect to pay at least $250,000 - paid in full. Subsequent trips will be $150,000 and require a 25% deposit.

British scientists have put together an anti-gravity machine which has the ability to levitate heavy stones, coins, and other metals in the air. Using a powerful magnet, the anti-gravity machine uses diamagnetism, which essentially means that you can place non-magnetic object into a powerful magnetic field, which then causes the object to take on a weak magnetic force of its own. While the levitation technology isn’t new, it has certainly never been at a point where it could lift objects like lumps of metal and heavy stones before. One step closer to that levitating Segway I have been wanting.
