ROMI, the Giant Furby, is Unveiled
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: CES, CES 2007, Misc. Tech, Science, Wireless / WiFi,
ETRI has developed ROMI, a Korean bot that will make its debut at next week’s CES 2007. The robot transmits video with its Wireless/CMDA connection, sees through a camera, and can relay information to your PC or phone. He obeys commands by voice activation of its name. While you can probably give it the most basics of demands such as, “ROMI walk roll” and “ROMI gimme five
none” we have a hunch that this bot is not much more than a glorified Furby.

Tri-Fold Mirror Outs Shower Rock Stars
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Music, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
We have already given you a possible solution for attaching your iPod in your car. Now we suggest a way you can keep it close to you when you have the urge to sing in the shower. The Tri-Fold Wireless MP3 Shower Mirror is an FM transmitter which attaches wirelessly to your iPod, TV, or other CD or MP3 player and projects a signal up to 100 feet. It also has a LED clock, a lighted, fogless mirror to watch yourself performing, and waterproof speakers so you can hear what others would probably like to ignore.
At dimensions of 6.25 x 3 x 9-inches and a weight of 9 lbs., the mirror attaches with included tape or suction cups, requires four AA and two AAA batteries (not included,) and can be found at the Discovery Store for $99.00.

This new MPrint MW-2 from Brother allows you to make copies almost anywhere, anytime. At a size of 6 x 8 x .7-inches and weighing about 1 pound, the M-Print is small enough to fit into your laptop case if you are as geekish about peripherals as we are. It is PC, Pocket PC 2003/2003 SE, and WM 5.0 compatible, and connectible by Bluetooth, USB, or IRDA. It also features a 300 x 300dpi resolution and can print 20 copies per minute. Check with Brother for price and availability.

If a nut-cracking Darth Vader is too bizarre, why not settle for R2-D2? The droid has a mood status indicator, infrared location sensors, sonar navigational technology, sound processing mics, and motorized treads. He will respond to over 40 voice commands, plays music and dances, and can even play tag. He stands 15-inches high, weighs 6 pounds, and requires 4 AA and 4 D batteries (not included) and some minor assembly.
We first found the bot at Toys ‘R Us for $99.00, but he has apparently gone back to his galaxy far, far away temporarily. Maybe The Dark Force just convinced him to make an appearance on Amazon, where you can still get one for an inflated $379.95.

Samsung’s Aqua Slim Phone Targets Russian Women
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Wireless / WiFi,
Samsung is introducing its “for Russian ladies only” SGH-E570 Aqua Slim Phone, an upgrade from its SGH-E530 which was introduced last year. Available in sweet pink, festival orange, oasis blue, special silver, and viola black, the cell phone has a curved design and hints at art nouveau on its back. At a size of 86 x 44.7 x 23.9 mm and weight of 80.5 g, it features Bluetooth or USB connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, a pedometer, and a check for your caloric intake. Perhaps it is different in Russia, but we’re not sure we want our phone to remind us how we supersized our meal when no one was watching.

Motorokr PDA Eliminates Touchpads
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
Motorola has come up with a TFT touchscreen PDA, surely the look of things to come. The Motorokr E6 PDA cell phone has a 2.4-inch screen and has dispensed with a number pad. It also features a 2 megapixel camera with 8X zoom, CIF and QVGA video recording capability for MP3s, a SD/MMC musical memory card slot, connectivity via USB or Bluetooth, and FM tuner. A mere 14.5 mm thick, the Motorokr is now available in China and on its way to India. We’re hoping that since this one won’t get here in time for the holidays, they will play Santa for the rest of us next year.

With so many phones to choose from lately, Sony Ericsson today unveiled their new Z310 clamshell. It features a hidden icon display that glows when a message is received, light effects that can be color coded to alert you to one of your contacts, a VGA camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and supports EDGE/GPRS on its 900/1800/1900 GSM frequency bands. The cell phone boasts 7 hours of talk time and 12 1/2 hours of standby.
