No, this is not your mind on drugs. It is actually a nifty HTML Graph Applet created by Sala, who says that more than one million graphs have been made since it was put online. Insert a simple url and comes up with some amazing patterns. Because it works with flash, if you have an older computer, it will take some time to come up with the final image.
Here is the translation for the colors:
- blue: for links (the A tag)
- red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags)
- green: for the DIV tag
- violet: for images (the IMG tag)
- yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
- orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
- black: the HTML tag, the root node
- gray: all other tags

Yahoo has decided to regroup. They will be taking all their services, such as Flickr, Del.icio.us, and Upcoming, and transforming them into one network. Ari Balogh, Yahoo’s chief technology officer, said, “We are not building another social network. We are building social into everything we do.”
They have already created Searchmonkey that allows users and developers to easily utilize their search technology. The project, referred to as Y!OS (Yahoo Open Strategy,) should be open to all later on this year if Microsoft doesn’t take them over first.

How spooky is this? Amazon has become an Internet Costco, offering food through Amazon Grocery and is offering instant rebates to boot. Imagine saving up to 50% on Hersey’s Chocolate, up to 25% on Ragu and Bertolli Microwavable Pouches, and 50% off Bentley’s Tea. We were notified by the site by e-mail because we recently bought on of those kewl Automatic Shower Cleaners with a gift certificate someone had given us. We got the $30.00 to $40.00 item for about $22.00. If this is some indication of the future of home and garden products that will not only save us money but gas as well, we are all for it.

The company is planning to publish a hardcover copy of the Internet tome to be named “The One-Volume Wikipedia Encyclopedia.” It will be composed of 50,000 of the 740,000 most searched terms. The first volume, which will be printed in September, may be a hint of things to come, as well as a new chapter in how to make money for Wikipedia. Remember to uncap your red pen to anonymously update and edit the book on its first read-through.

Sony BMG Joins UMG Subscription Service

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Internet, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
Nokia must be pleased that Sony BMG has teamed up with the Universal Music Group to allow their subscribers to have access to their music catalog. They join companies such as A&M, Geffen Records, Decca, and Motown Records. The company’s “Comes With Music” program, which started up last December, allows some users, depending on the model of phone, to download any of their songs on their cell phones or computers. Those phones should become available in the 3rd Quarter of this year at as yet undisclosed prices. The UMG subscription service will allow downloaders to own the tunes after a year.

Folding U.S. Candidates

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Editorial, Internet, Misc. Tech,
While the two Democratic contenders battle it out in Pennsylvania today, we found proof positive that when it comes to silly Internet sites, politicos have too much time on their hands. Designer Adi Marom gives you all the instructions you need to download and make finger puppets of Hillary, Barack, and John. She also encourages you to send a photo of your paper creations to a special Flickr gallery. So far there are all of 36 entires. While it’s obvious that some of us have too much time here, too, we think it would be kewl if you also sent us your creations. And if you live in Pennsylvania, get out there and vote.

Windows XP SP3 to be released on April 29th

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Internet, Microsoft, Software,
Man, April is just shaping up to bring us all sorts of goodness - Mario Kart Wii, Grand Theft Auto IV, and now Windows XP SP3. Don’t get me wrong, I sure as hell am not saying that XP SP3 will be anywhere near as enjoyable as two of the biggest console game releases of the year, but seriously, if those rumors about a 10 percent speed increase hold true, that is just one more reason to stick with XP over Vista. Look for WIndows XP SP3 in the Microsoft Download Center, as well as Microsoft Update, on April 29th.

IE 3 and 4 Blocked by Paypal

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Internet, Microsoft,
We got rather spooked after reading PayPal and Unsafe in the same headline. Having used the service for several years, we always wonder if it is really secure. The company says that those who use Internet Explorer 3 and 4 are the ones at risk because they don’t have enough security features to prevent phishing. If you use one of these you will be warned on the site and expect to be possibly blocked if you try to get in anyway.
The newest version supports EV SSL certificates. The comments were made in a paper written by the site’s Security Officer Michael Barrett and Risk Management Director Dan Levy. Our best advice? Head on over to IE and update to 7.0 or switch to Firefox.

We figured it was time to start throwing polls into the mix here at Gear Live, as it’s an oft requested feature from our readers. That being said, now that we are just shy of a week after tax time (you did remember to file your taxes, right?) and we want to know if you guys take advantage of the e-File method of doing thing, or if you rely on the more traditional practice of mailing everything in to the IRS in a MacBook Air-style envelope. How geeky do you keep it? Let us know.
MPAA Sues Pullmylink

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Editorial, Home Entertainment, Hot Deals, Internet, Movies,
The Motion Picture Association of America is suing Pullmylink and says that the site promotes and makes a profit from media that infringes on copyrights. This is the seventh time that the MPAA has done such an action since last year. They have not yet gone after sites such as YouTube. We are thinking that they look at this as free advertising as opposed to serious pirating, which they say has cost them billions of dollars of loss.
Pullmylink claims it has 12,000 visitors a day and more than 39,000 pages of free content. Their Superpass offers 100+ ad-free radio stations, 10 music downloads a month, RealPlayerPlus, and live feeds, such as the one for Big Brother. With their 14 day free trial, you had better hurry, just in case.
