Ringo Starr: Beatles May Have Reunited if All Were Alive

Ringo Starr says that the Beatles may have reunited by now had they all survived.
The 72-year-old musician and his former bandmate Paul McCartney have both gone on to have successful music careers since the band split in 1970, but Ringo likes to think all four original members would have got back together for a tour if they were all alive now. John Lennon was shot by a fan in New York in 1980, while George Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001.
When asked the "crazy question" on whether they would reunite in the present day, Ringo said, "I'd like to think, yes, we would. Paul still goes out with his band, I go out with mine and John would have probably been going out with his. George was not big on touring so I'm not sure about him. But who knows... it could have come together."

Placebo is back with a new album, and they're not being quiet about it.
The alternative rockers released a teaser for the title track of their upcoming seventh studio album, Loud Like Love. Though the video appears to be a little more normal than the band's usual aesthetic, the music itself sounds like they're departing from their sixth album Battle for the Sun - thankfully - and returning to the style fans recall from Meds (2006) and Sleeping with Ghosts (2003).

Adrian Belew has quit Nine Inch Nails.
The 63-year-old guitarist has parted ways with the band after a discussion with frontman Trent Reznor - who was inspired by Adrian to reform the group - in which the pair concluded his involvement was "not working" and he has apologized to fans for letting them down.
Adrian - who previously fronted band King Crimson and has worked with the likes of Frank Zappa, Talking Heads and David Bowie - wrote on his official Facebook page, "hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating FLUX. (sic)"
His departure comes just a month after bassist Eric Avery quit, admitting he was "overwhelmed" at the thought of a long tour and instead wants to remain in Los Angeles to focus on his solo career.

Sting to Release First New Material in a Decade

Sting is set to release his first new material in a decade later this year.
The "Fields of Gold" singer has recorded his first full-length album, The Last Ship, since his 2003 record Sacred Love after taking inspiration from songs he had penned for the same-titled Broadway musical, scheduled to open next year. The play is set in the 1980s in Wallsend, North East England, near where Sting - real name Gordon Sumner - grew up and the 61-year-old musician will use several songs from the show along with tracks he wrote which weren't included in the final line up.
Sting - who is currently touring North America with his Back to Bass tour - has been working hard on the LP for three years and has called upon the help of several collaborators, including James Bond writer John Logan and Brian Yorkey. The record, which will be his 11th studio album, will be released by a grouping of labels Cherrytree, Interscope and A & M Records.

Chris Martin Working on U2 Album?

Chris Martin is rumored to be helping U2 with their new album.
The Coldplay frontman reportedly joined the Irish rockers - Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. - at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, where they have been working on their 13th album with producer Danger Mouse. According to fan site atu2.com, "Our reporter saw Coldplay's Chris Martin arrive, followed by Larry Mullen Jr. about two minutes later. Shortly after that, a van arrived with three guitars - each with a white label that said 'U2/Edge' - and our reporter actually helped bring the gear into the studio. He saw Larry and Chris Martin together in another room before heading back outside."
The site says when Chris was later approached, he denied he had been in the studio.
The singer is a good friend of Bono and a long time fan of U2, previously saying of the group, "We respect any musician, particularly ones who have kept going and not changed line-up and have always been good."

Jason Newsted believes that he "saved" Metallica.
The bass player joined the 'Enter Sandman' group in 1986 to replace Cliff Burton - who had died in a road accident - and left in 2001 after relationships between the band members broke down. However, Jason insists it was his decision to exit which benefited the band and helped them carry on.
"I don't know if this is selfish, and anybody can take it the way they want, or maybe it's egotistical - I'm not sure - but I truly feel that I saved [Metallica] in 1986 by being the right choice [to replace Cliff] and being able to take all the s**t. I also saved their band 12 years ago by stepping aside and letting them carry on with what they wanted," he said.
The 49-year-old musician claims his bandmates at the time - James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett - began to give up on music and he felt angered after having made the group his top priority: "I was not able to be on the same page with them anymore, they were taking too much time away from the band. We hadn't plugged in our amps for months and months and months by the time that I had made the decision and called the meeting to talk to them."

Mumford and Sons: Glastonbury Is a Risk

Mumford and Sons aren't sure they can compete with The Rolling Stones at Glastonbury and admit the festival appearance is a big "risk."
The "I Will Wait" band see headlining the world renowned event as the biggest "gamble" they've ever taken, and aren't sure if they can live up to the legacy of their co-headliners - who have been touring for 50 years.
"It's a really huge deal to headline Glastonbury; we're a young band with only two records behind us. This summer is probably the biggest risk we've ever taken," frontman Marcus Mumford said.
Banjo player Winston Marshall added, "I've seen The Stones play for three hours and the crowd knew every song. It's what you want in a headline slot at a festival. I'm scared because it feels like a gamble. We don't know if we've earned it yet or not."
Bass player Ted Dwayne also admits he's getting nervous in the run up to their closing festival slot on Sunday June 30: "The other night was the first time I visualized the [main] Pyramid Stage in my head. I hadn't made that connection before, and it actually real, it's really, really scary."

Courtney Love Still Guarding Nirvana Rights

Courtney Love is preventing Nirvana's music being used for a "jukebox musical."
The "Doll Parts" singer - widow of grunge band's late songwriter Kurt Cobain, and shareholder in the rights to the band's back catalogue - sees herself as the only person stopping the group's songs being used in commercials, or for a musical stage production like Green Day's "American Idiot" or Queen's "We Will Rock You."
"Somebody has to guard the gates of this thing. Because you know what would happen? The second I sell [the rights], it becomes a jukebox musical, makes a billion dollars, and you've got jazz hands on Broadway. Or [Kurt will] be in Gatorade commercials. I will never sell the f***ing stakes I have in it, because no one else will bother protecting him," she said.
Courtney, 48, also thinks some of the people who try to start relationships with her are only really after the rights to the Nirvana catalogue: "I haven't slept with a musician in ages. I go for the safe business guys, and then they see [the Nirvana publishing rights] and they go, 'Boing! You should sell that s**t!'"

Bon Jovi have added new dates to their world tour.
The rockers have extended their Because We Can gigs in the US and Canada due to popular demand, and will be returning to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Toronto and Montreal in the autumn as well as visiting some brand new cities. The summer tour begins on July 12 in Chicago, culminating on July 27 in Rutherford, New Jersey.
The "Livin' On A Prayer" chart-toppers will take a well-earned break before hitting the road again, performing in Vancouver on October 2 and wrapping things up on November 8 in Montreal.
The band seem to be coping well despite the shock departure of guitarist Richie Sambora last month, who bowed out of their tour after failing to perform at a date in Calgary, Canada. Frontman Jon Bon Jovi incurred Richie's wrath when he appeared to reference Richie's last rehab stint for alcohol abuse in 2011, when he missed 13 shows, as the reason for his departure. The guitarist hit back, asking Jon to "stop with the trash talking."

Trent Reznor Announces Upcoming Nine Inch Nails Album

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has announced that the band has finished their latest album and that it will be released through Columbia later this year.
While Reznor stated at the end of last year that new material was in the works and had released scheduled tour dates, the band never divulged just when that album would arrive (their last album, The Slip, was released in 2008). Reznor opened up about the fact that he kept the news underwraps from fans:
"I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately. For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f--king great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, How to Destroy Angels and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!"
