Madonna to Release Another Greatest Hits Compilation
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop,
Madonna may be 50, but she still has a lot to offer.
Eight years after releasing GHV2, the Queen of Pop is preparing to do it all over once again. Later this year, Madonna will release her third Best Of compilation. (The Immaculate Collection, released in 1990, was her first.) “We’re hoping to have a greatest hits package come out in September,” her rep stated.
The track list for the upcoming CD may be decided in part by fan suggestions. Earlier this week, Guy Oseary (Madonna’s manager) solicited comments via Twitter: “Working on Madonna’s greatest hits album.. any tracks that you think MUST be on?”
Oldies but goodies won’t be the only things included on the disc. Madonna plans on recording a few songs for the compilation as well.

Michael Jackson to Perform 50 Sold Out London Shows
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Concerts / Tours, Pop,
For at least 50 nights in the upcoming year, Michael Jackson will be seen in public without his hospital mask.
Just last week, the singer announced he would be hitting the stage once again for 10 shows at England’s O2 Arena. Days later, 40 additional dates were added.
Within a short period of time, every single ticket for Jackson’s 50 concerts were snatched up. Approximately 750,000 were sold today at a rate of 11 per second. In total, over 1 million seats were bought since an earlier presale.
Michael, who has not done a full concert since 2001, claims these perfomances will be his last in London. The first half of his run begins July 9 and goes through September. The gigs then resume next January with the finale on February 24.

And it’s not all that bad. Listen for yourself through the video above.

Sure, this video also touts the fact that Britney Spears is the new face of Candie’s, but what we are excited about is the brief sneak preview it offers of the performance we can expect during the Circus tour concerts. We’ve got the three ring thing going on, along with a bunch of acrobatics, from what we can see. Who’s going?

After two decades with the Barenaked Ladies, cofounder Steven Page is calling it quits. This news comes seven months after the singer/guitarist was arrested on drug charges.
The 38-year-old singer/guitarist, who was caught in possession in cocaine last July, could have faced over five years behind bars for the felony. But a deal struck late last year allowed Page to avoid jail time provided he seek treatment and avoid trouble.

American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi Duets with Nick Lachey
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Collaborations, Pop,
She may be busy guiding wannabe vocalists on American Idol, but Kara DioGuardi still has time to help out a few C-list singers.
Although she only intended to help out behind the scenes, Kara will also have a singing credit on Nick Lachey’s new album. The song, titled “Temporary,” will be included in Coming Up For Air.
“She and I wrote it together,” Lachey told Access Hollywood. “Initially, just in the studio, we thought, ‘All right, let’s sing it together and then we’ll maybe find someone else to be on it,’ but she did such a great job on it.”
And while Kara’s job is to help others become stars, Nick hopes their song will be a showcase for the judge as well. “She is one of the more talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with and just a great, down to earth person as well,” he said. “I’m very happy for her that she’s getting this opportunity.”

Lil’ Wayne may have had the most nominations going in, but he wasn’t the biggest winner coming out.
Next to Rihanna and Chris Brown, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were the biggest newsmakers of the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The collaboration between the Led Zeppelin lead singer and the bluegrass artist earned the duo five awards last night including Album of the Year for Raising Sand and Record of the Year. Prior to yesterday, Plant, 60, had only racked up one Grammy in his career. (Krauss, on the other hand, is now up to 26.)

And you thought Paul McCartney’s appearance on the Colbert Report was cool.
Just days ago, the former Beatle officially became a part of this year’s Grammy lineup. Now the 66-year-old is scheduled to perform at his first US concert festival ever.
In addition to McCartney, nearly 130 more artists are slated to play at this spring’s Coachella event. Assuming she is able to make it into the country, Amy Winehouse is expected to make her first appearance on this side of the pond in three years. (Her recent Grammys performance was done via satellite.) Meanwhile, the other acts include The Killers, The Cure, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, Public Enemy, The Tings Tings, My Bloody Valentine, Okkervil River, James Morrison, Lupe Fiasco, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand and Superchunk. (A full list can be found here.)
