American Idol has picked David Cook for its 10th season: the singer’s cover of the hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” is this year’s good-bye song. The iconic tune was notably featured in The Breakfast Club. Now, it will send disappointed American Idol 10 contestants away from the competition.
Cook was American Idol’s seventh season winner, and he’ll perform twice on the show this season. His version of the song will be available on iTunes on March 8.

Report: Beatles Library Finally Coming to iTunes
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Industry News, Rumors, Rock, iTunes,
Imagine people across the universe being able to purchase music from The Beatles on iTunes. That could happen very soon if a report from the Wall Street Journal is correct.
According to the newspaper, a deal might have finally been struck between Apple Inc., parties representing the Fab Four and record label EMI.
Although the band members – creators of Apple Corps Ltd. – and the computer company have long disputed over the “Apple” name, “people familiar with the situation” claim an agreement has been reached over the Beatles’ catalogue.
These same people also warn that Apple Inc. “could change plans at the last minute.”
It’s believed the new deal will be formally announced at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.

Interview: Hadouken!

Hadouken, a special move belonging to Capcom’s influential game Street Fighter, can now also be associated to a band just as influential.
Hadouken! has been making waves with their grime, techno, new rave music in the UK and around the world. But putting this band in a genre is just criminal. Hadouken! will hit you in the face and finish you off with an uppercut with their high energy beats that will move the body of even the stiffest of men – even dead ones.
If you have not yet heard of Hadouken!, you soon will. EA (Electronic Arts) /Artwerk has picked up this band to enrich our EA gaming experiences with sounds that can only be called one thing – awesome.
If I haven’t interested you yet into checking this band out, you are just crazy. I highly recommended giving this band a spin. For the Masses, Hadouken!’s album, can be found on iTunes, and can be downloaded here. YOU GO NOW!
Now that you’ve downloaded the album and loved it, it’s time to get up close and personal. I had the opportunity to chat with guitarist Dan Rice about the band, videogames, and all things music.

Michael Jackson Taking Over iTunes Chart
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, The Charts, Pop, iTunes,
It should come as no surprise that less than 24 hours after Michael Jackson’s death, his library is dominating the iTunes sales chart. You can check out the entire Michael Jackson music library if you want to get in on the action.
What is surprising? Although he currently has 39 entries in the Top 100, his highest chart position is #2. What’s at #1? ‘I Gotta Feeling’ from the Black Eyed Peas. (Perez Hilton’s rivals are also still sitting at #3 with ‘Boom Boom Pow.’)
So which songs are fans are downloading the most? The King of Pop’s ‘Man in the Mirror’ currently sits at #2 while ‘Thriller’ stands at #4 and ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ at #5. ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’ and ‘Smooth Criminal’ are the only other tunes ranked in The Top 10.
Update: Looks like 8 of the Top 10 iTunes albums are also Michael Jackson’s work.

Coldplay, Leona Lewis Top iTunes’ 2008 Sales
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: The Charts, Hip-Hop & Rap, Pop, Rock, iTunes,
Earlier this year at the 2008 Oscars, American actors walked away empty-handed. Now American musicians are being pushed aside by the British Invasion.
According to the Associated Press, this year’s best iTunes sellers were performers from across the pond. Topping the album charts was Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. Although the company does not reveal actual sales numbers, a majority of the band’s digital sales (500,000 since June) were apparently purchased through iTunes. (More than 2 million copies of Viva have been sold overall.) The other artists in the Top 5 include Jack Johnson (Sleep Through the Static), the Juno soundtrack, Lil Wayne (Tha Carter III) and Sara Bareilles (Little Voice).

This weeks releases are highlighted by three spotlight albums, the first of which is Circus, which is supposed to be Britney Spears’ comeback album (same thing they said about last year’s Blackout.) We’ve also got Akon back with his new one, Freedom, which features the track Right Now (Na Na Na) that you’ve been hearing all over the radio over the past couple of weeks. Last, the soundtrack to the latest Beyonce flick, Cadillac Records, is in stores as well. After listening, we think this one is worth checking out, as it has a really good vibe. Here are the links to check out any of the aforementioned albums:
