Miley CyrusEminem was among the big winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night, while Miley Cyrus caused controversy yet again.

The 41-year-old rapper won the Best Hip Hop and Global Icon prizes at the ceremony at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam - making him the artist with the most EMAs ever - and he celebrated his victory with a surprise performance of "Bezerk" before a scintillating rendition of "Rap God."

Miley ensured she remained in the spotlight by sparking up what appeared to be a joint on-stage and then smoking it with Will Ferrell, who was at the awards as his Anchorman alter-ego Ron Burgundy, before accepting her Best Video prize for "Wrecking Ball." The blonde star told the crowd, "I couldn't fit this award in my bag but I did find this..."

One Direction also won two accolades, Best Pop and Best UK & Ireland Act, and the band's 19-year-old hunk Harry Styles was named Best Look - beating the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Rita Ora to the gong - however none of the boy band were at the ceremony to pick up their prizes.

Azealia Banks and Kanye West

Azealia Banks thinks she's the female Kanye West.

The "212" rapper believes she shares a spiritual connection with the hip-hop star and thinks no one else can even come close to their musical "genius." She told ELLE magazine, "Kanye is a genius. Kanye and I are like the same person but boy and girl. We're pulling from the same cloud, the same inspiration. We're both Geminis, we're the two premier avant gardists in hip hop music. It's just me and him. I think our consciousnesses are swirling around each other in some weird kind of way..."

Pharrell WilliamsPharrell Williams works like Einstein and Leonardo da Vinci.

The rapper-and-producer is "obsessed" with the work of the scientist and can see similarities between his own thought processes and that of the physicist and artist:

I'm obsessed with Einstein's process of tapping into the ether. He called it thought experiments and I was very surprised to see it was so similar to Leonardo da Vinci's process. It's like putting a candle on the floor and looking at the light flickering on the ceiling to zone out - which is a good description of what it's like when I make music. Often I'll go outside walking, which allows my mind to wander. It's the wandering that brings about good ideas for me."

As well as making music, Pharrell has been busy working on a sunglasses collection for Moncler and says he priorities "silhouette and functionality" in design. "These days, when it comes to design, I'm all about silhouette and functionality first. What's more important - the t-shirt or the label plastered across it? Just think about Rei Kawakubo [Commes des Garcons founder] - she's a genius. She proves you don't need to cover your designs in a label because the silhouette tells you exactly who made it," he explained to Grazia.

EminemEminem will be appearing at the MTV Europe Music Awards tomorrow.

The rapper has been confirmed to attend the awards ceremony held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he is due to be presented with the Global Icon Award. The "Lose Yourself" hitmaker - who is also rumored to be performing - follows in the footsteps of music legends including Bon Jovi, Queen and Whitney Houston. "A lot of thought goes into who could possibly be appropriate. This man, has sold over 80 million records. I think everyone agrees, Eminem is one of the most creative and unique artists of our time," said Bruce Gilmer from MTV.

Acts already confirmed to take to the stage include Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon.

Meanwhile, this year's EMAs host Red Foo from LMFAO has been getting to know host city Amsterdam ahead of tomorrow's show. "Amsterdam is incredible, and the women are incredible here becuase they all ride bikes and they are fit and it is lovely, and the bikes are serious here. You see ones with, like three baby seats on them. And then coffeeshops! I saw Afrojack in one last night and we had some, y'know, coffee," he said.

M.I.A.M.I.A. dismisses the idea she is a pop star.

The "Bring The Noize" musician insisted she prefers to be known as a rapper and thinks people pigeonholing her the way they do is a bit "weird."

"I dunno... it's weird. I'm not really a pop star. I don't think I'm popular enough to be a proper pop star. I prefer being called a rapper," she told V magazine. She admitted there was a time before her fourth album Matangi when she questioned her own ability to make a successful pop album. "After I made the last record I was no longer on XL, my old label, and I felt like I didn't know how to make a big pop record. I didn't know how to do the thing that everyone wanted me to do - which seemed like the only thing you could do on a major label," she explained.

The "Paper Planes" hitmaker has opened up about her style in the past, and she has compared herself to polarizing artists.

Nicki MinajNicki Minaj has confirmed she will release a new album next year.

The 30-year-old rapper hasn't dropped any music for the last 18 months, but she admits she's beginning to plan her third LP and is expecting it to be ready by the end of 2014.

"I'm definitely working. I'm very excited at what I've been coming up with. I already started, I didn't tell anybody because I didn't want to jinx it and stuff but I already started and I'm going home tomorrow to really start," she told MTV.

The "Super Bass" hitmaker is remaining tight-lipped about with whom she is working, but she's confident the people she has selected for her new studio album will put a different spin on her music: "I'm really excited and the people that have been working with me now, have been people that I haven't worked with before so it's like they're bringing a new sound to the album that I've never experimented with and plus, I got so much to talk about."

AdeleAdele has recorded a "filthy" rap song.

The "Someone Like You" singer is set to shock fans if she releases the track - a world away from her heart-wrenching ballads - which is full of expletives. "I know Adele really well and she was with me and [producer] Labrinth in the studio when we recorded 'Earthquake.' She also has this rap she recorded. It's really filthy," said rapper Tinie Tempah.

Tinie, 24, says the track was "an experiment" and he isn't sure if it will ever be released, especially as Adele has joked she'll start legal proceedings if he leaks it. Speaking in an interview on TV show Alan Carr: Chatty Man', he added, "She said if we ever play it to anyone she will sue us."

Adele, 25, took some time out after the global success of her second album 21 - having her first son, Angelo, with partner Simon Konecki in October 2012 - but she has recently been in the studio with songwriter Ryan Tedder, who claims her new material is sounding great. Ryan - who wrote "Rumor Has It" and Turning Tables with the star - said, "Adele sounds even better than before. I love where she's at, she's still my favorite artist in the world. I would press pause on my entire life if it meant I could go into the studio for a month straight with her."

Lady GagaLady Gaga will perform at the American Music Awards next month.

The "Applause" singer will join Miley Cyrus in the line-up of stars who will take to the stage at the ceremony held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on November 24. The announcement follows reports that One Direction are set to make their on-stage debut at the annual awards, and it's highly likely the boys - Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan - will perform their new single "Story of My Life," taken from their third album Midnight Memories, which is due for release a day later.

"Thrift Shop" hitmakers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are also confirmed to perform at the AMAs after previously leading the nominations with six nods, including consideration for Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and New Artist of the Year.

Following closely behind is Justin Timberlake, who has been named in five categories, as has "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer Taylor Swift. Other highly anticipated performances on the night will include Kendrick Lamar, who made waves this year with breakthrough album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, and country star Luke Bryan.

M.I.A.M.I.A. believes she is a cross between Madonna and Sex Pistols singer Johnny Rotten.

The "Paper Planes" hitmaker - real name Mathangi Arulpragasam - says as an artist she is like the "Material Girl" singer as she can create all different types of music, but she has a rebellious side like punk rocker Rotten, real name John Lydon.

"People come up to me and say, 'Oh my God it's a thin line, you could either be Madonna or Jonny Rotten' ... I'm both, that's what it is," she said in an interview with UK station BBC Radio 1.

M.I.A. has previously collaborated with Madonna on the track "Give Me All Your Luvin" on her 2012 album MDNA. However, their relationship was soured when M.I.A. caused controversy by flipping her middle finger at a camera their performance at the Super Bowl XLVI NFL half-time show in February 2012, an action Madonna described as "negative" and "out of place."
