Alison Krauss and Robert Plant

Lil’ Wayne may have had the most nominations going in, but he wasn’t the biggest winner coming out.

Next to Rihanna and Chris Brown, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were the biggest newsmakers of the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The collaboration between the Led Zeppelin lead singer and the bluegrass artist earned the duo five awards last night including Album of the Year for Raising Sand and Record of the Year. Prior to yesterday, Plant, 60, had only racked up one Grammy in his career. (Krauss, on the other hand, is now up to 26.)

And you thought Paul McCartney’s appearance on the Colbert Report was cool.

Just days ago, the former Beatle officially became a part of this year’s Grammy lineup. Now the 66-year-old is scheduled to perform at his first US concert festival ever.

In addition to McCartney, nearly 130 more artists are slated to play at this spring’s Coachella event. Assuming she is able to make it into the country, Amy Winehouse is expected to make her first appearance on this side of the pond in three years. (Her recent Grammys performance was done via satellite.) Meanwhile, the other acts include The Killers, The Cure, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, Public Enemy, The Tings Tings, My Bloody Valentine, Okkervil River, James Morrison, Lupe Fiasco, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand and Superchunk. In this video, shot from a hotel room in Paris, (the Louis Vuitton Don) attempts to either be funny or…something. Quite frankly, we have no clue what he said about anything…but it’s still fun to watch someone try to be deep with their commentary. Check it out, and feel free to decipher his message in the comments.

Kanye West

“I made a decision. I wanna make popular music, but I want less fans. I want the freedom of having less fans. It’s like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility. It’s like Björk. If she wanted to pose naked, you’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s Björk.’ But if I wanted to pose naked, people would draw all type of things into it. I definitely feel like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll pose naked. I break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture.”

Over a year after tossing a fan off a concert stage, hip-hop artist Akon finally learned his punishment.

The performer, who was once facing over a year in jail, plead guilty to second-degree harassment today. The charge stemmed from a June 2007 when Akon appeared at a KFEST event in Fishkill, NY. When the singer was hit by a flying object (you can see that moment at around the :13 mark), he asked that the culprit be brought to the stage. That was when Akon (a.k.a. Aliaune Thiam) took matters into his own hands.

Since prosecutors agreed to drop a child endangerment charge, the 35-year-old was slapped with just a $250 fine and 65 hours of community service.

EminemEminem and Dr. Dre will be reunited again on Relapse, the album which will mark 's return to the rap scene.

The real Slim Shady recently spilled to Billboard magazine. "Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days," he explained. "Just him banging away on tracks and me getting that little spark that makes me write to it."

The Dre-Shady partnership has worked very successfully on past albums. According to reports, Dre even suspended work on his own album, Detox, to work on Relapse.

"I don't have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go - not even close," Eminem said of the partnership. "Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse. We are up to our old mischievous ways ... let's just leave it at that."

Earlier this year at the 2008 Oscars, American actors walked away empty-handed. Now American musicians are being pushed aside by the British Invasion.

According to the Associated Press, this year’s best sellers were performers from across the pond. Topping the album charts was Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. Although the company does not reveal actual sales numbers, a majority of the band’s digital sales (500,000 since June) were apparently purchased through iTunes. (More than 2 million copies of Viva have been sold overall.) The other artists in the Top 5 include Jack Johnson (Sleep Through the Static), the Juno soundtrack, Lil Wayne (Tha Carter III) and Sara Bareilles (Little Voice).

World AIDS day was the catalyst for the launch of (RED)WIRE, a digital music magazine raising funds to help combat AIDS in Africa. U2, Sheryl Crow and others have videos posted already, as does one Jay-Z. His latest video for the song “Brooklyn We Go Hard” is absolutely incredible and you are required to watch and listen to it multiple times.

Watch it because the incredible Typographic Illustration skills are from none other than Evan Roth, who was kind enough to include the source code in this video as well. Expect to here this track non-stop starting next month, as it’s included in the upcoming NOTORIOUS film. Yes, it’s produced by but NO, there is not a single note of Auto-Tune in this track.
