M.I.A.

‘s new album will be “a total departure” from her established sound.

Producer Diplo, who collaborated with M.I.A. (real name Maya Arulpragasam) on her breakthrough single “Paper Planes,” promises he has drawn from a well of diverse musical influences to create tracks for the Sri Lankan born singer’s third album. “On the new record I’ve just done for her - which might be the single - I sampled a bunch of gospel-y, old-school, Alabama, weird, Sacred Harp singers,” he said.

“It’s turning into an Animal Collective kind of record, which represents a total departure from what you would expect from her, but that’s where her head was at. She just had a baby so she was on this elated mood. With her it’s always sort of random, whatever you think was not going to be productive - that recording ended up being a really s****y demo and then it turned into a big song.”

In her new track “Not Myself Tonight,” claims “I’m out of character/ I’m in rare form/ And if you really knew me/ you’d know its not the norm.”

Although no one would ever accuse the “Candyman” singer of ever being predictable, Aguilera aimed for a new sound while creating her upcoming album. “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect,” she told MTV.

If you like what you hear here, you can buy the song when it officially drops on April 13. Otherwise, you can wait to purchase the entire album - Bionic - on June 8.

50 Cent

50 Cent, who previously claimed that hip hop is “dwindling away,” has already started to record a dance album inspired by club music he’s heard while touring Europe.

“I went to a nightclub after party. It was different music after a while. The music they were playing before they were playing the music I created was more up-tempo, more dance,” he explained. “I wanted to make a song like that, so I went into the studio. Because I’m traveling with my live band, I took the band with me and we sequenced it and recorded the actual record while we was out there.”

The “Baby By Me” rapper said he hopes the new record - working title Black Magic - will show his full diversity as an artist to people.

“I won’t allow myself to be placed in a box where I can only do one style, or do one kind of music,” he added. “They should expect the unexpected on this one. If they can understand how I enjoy different genres of music and different styles, for the people who have various tastes in music, they’ll really like it.”

Brittany Murphy was worried people wouldn’t take her seriously as a singer.

The actress - who died on December 20 at age 32 - provided the vocals for DJ Paul Oakenfold’s 2006 dance track “Faster Kill Pussycat” but wasn’t keen on be credited for the song.

“I said to her, ‘Why hide behind something? You have a really great vocal. People are going to be shocked and pleasantly happy with what they’re going to hear. You are not one of these actresses who are trying to sing and not doing a good job of it,’” Paul said. “I demoed three other girls on that song - and some of the girls were pretty big singers - and Brittany blew them away.”
