Lady Gaga’s Tour to Offer Free Therapy

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Concerts / Tours, Dance, Pop,
Always one to try something bold and socially helpful, Lady Gaga announced that her upcoming Born This Way Ball shows will provide free counseling sessions to attendees who seek it.
Therapists will be available at a pre-show "tailgating experience" on the BornBrave Bus, which will also feature food, games, and DJ sets from Lady Starlight.
"BornBrave Bus Is a place where mental health + depression are taken seriously w/ no judgement, FREE real help available to all... I feel like most kids don't look for help because they feel embarrassed so mom + I wanted to break the stigmas around 'help' and make it fun," Gaga wrote on her Facebook.
In light of recent shootings and the LGBT community's continuing struggle for acceptance in some areas, Gaga's spotlight on mental health is quite admirable.
The Born This Way Ball kicks off in Vancouver on January 11.

Britney Spears Is the Highest Paid Woman in Music

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Pop,
Britney Spears was the top earning woman in music this year.
The X Factor judge - who neither released a new album or went on tour in 2012 - raked in an estimated $58 million in just 12 months, according to Forbes magazine.
Most of the 30-year-old popstar's profits - which are just slightly less than the $64 million she earned in 2010 - came from her comeback Femme Fatale tour that grossed $68.7 million worldwide, followed by her Femme Fatale album, in addition to her popular fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden and her endorsement deals.
Music attorney Lori Landew, who helped Britney negotiate her first record deal as a teenager, attempted to explain her huge success despite a few rough years, saying, "Britney has an electricity that connects with audiences on screen and off, and it is that intangible quality that always seems to leave her fans, old and new, breathless."

Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi performed at the 12.12.12 concert in New York last night. The Beatles guitarist fronted a Nirvana reunion as he brought surviving members, drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear - who were with singer Kurt Cobain until his suicide in 1994 - on stage halfway through his set at Madison Square Garden.
Before introducing the group at the Concert for Sandy Relief - which raised money for people in the Caribbean and US who were struck by Hurricane Sandy in October - he said, "The penny finally dropped that I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion."

Justin Bieber helped Drake fulfil a "childhood dream" over the weekend.
The rapper joined the "Boyfriend" singer as he headlined the 60,000 capacity Rogers Centre - originally named the SkyDome - in his hometown of Toronto, Canada, on Saturday.
Justin - who also hails from the state of Ontario in Canada - was joined by the rapper for "Right Here" from his Believe album, after which Drake told the crowd, "I'll tell you, there's very few people I met in the world that are as talented and as incredible as this young man right here. I want to thank you for letting me live a childhood dream, which is my first opportunity to perform at the SkyDome. So thank you, my man."
Drake, 26, then stayed on stage for a version of his track "The Motto," with Justin, 18, taking lines originally rapped by Lil Wayne.

The Rolling Stones Face Huge Fine

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Performances, Rock, New Releases,
The Rolling Stones are facing a $320,000 fine because their gig at London's O2 on Sunday was 35 minutes too long.
The veteran rockers - made up of Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts - were playing the first of their historic 50 and Counting shows and were meant to finish at 10:30pm. However, they defied local council rules and thrilled the 20,000-strong crowd by continuing to play encores until 11:05pm, meaning they will be given a huge fine.
"It means a big fine - but the guys just do their thing. There wasn't a janitor standing there, jangling his keys, saying. 'I want to go home,'" their agent Bernard Doherty told The Sun.

Coldplay will take a three year break from touring.
The British band's frontman Chris Martin made the announcement as they finished the Australian leg of their world tour in Brisbane on Wednesday, but admitted to some doubts about the hiatus. "This is the last big show for three years or so. I don't want to stop," he said.
The group have three dates left on their current world tour, including a concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut on December 29 followed by two shows at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn although they have hinted they are already working on a new album.
Speaking about their last record, 2011's Mylo Xyloto, Chris promised fans the new release will be easier to pronounce: "The next one we're releasing is much easier to pronounce." When pressed further about what the next album will be called, Chris said, "I can't tell you that."

Chris Brown Pulls Out of Concert Over Protests

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Gossip, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Chris Brown pulled out of a planned concert in Guyana following protests over his assault on Rihanna in 2009.
The "Don't Wake Me Up" singer was scheduled to perform in the South American country's capital Georgetown on December 26, but after women's rights groups and other protestors made it clear he would not be welcome, he decided to cancel. Concert promoter Hits & Jams Entertainment said Chris - who is still on probation for beating up his then girlfriend three years ago - cited discomfort with the protests, according to the New York Daily News.
This is not the first time Chris has faced opposition since the assault; Irish acoustic hip hop trio the Original Rudeboys recently turned down an offer to support him at Dublin's O2 arena in December as they don't want to be associated with the R&B singer. A member of the group Sean Walsh said, "Even though it's a huge opportunity to play in the O2 with a major hip hop star and a substantial fee was offered, we are completely against Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna."

Fiona Apple Cancels Tour to Tend to Her Dying Dog

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Alternative,
Despite releasing her first album this year since 2005's Extraordinary Machine, 2012 has not been very good to Fiona Apple: first she was arrested in September for drug possession, and now her faithful dog of 14 years is dying.
In a Facebook message to her fans, Apple revealed in a scanned handwritten letter why she is postponing her current tour. “I just can’t leave her now, please understand... If I go away again, I’m afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out," she wrote.

Rihanna Is Sorry for Her 777 Tour

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Gossip, Pop, R&B / Soul,
Rihanna has apologized to the 150 fans and journalists on her disastrous 777 tour.
The "Diamonds" hitmaker - who has been relying on a mixture of cough syrup and lozenges to keep her going during the whirlwind promotional trip for her new album Unapologetic that ends in New York tonight after which she will have done seven concerts in seven cities in seven days - has admitted she struggled during the tour and it was impossible to spend time with everyone but insisted she has no regrets.
Media members on the tour have been complaining all week about the poor conditions including a lack of food, sleep and extremely limited access to the singer for interviews. An Australian journalist streaked through the plane in protest, while others made up songs about the poor conditions.
According to USMagazine.com, the 24-year-old addressed the crowd at the back of their private plane this morning saying, "Guess what, we made it! This has been an experience that I will never ever forget. I barely slept. My sleeping was all done on this plane, I want to thank everyone for making this trip the sh**. I want to see the naked Australian! I was glad I did this, absolutely. Tonight is the night everything we did this week goes off. I know you guys got barely any dirt. But I had to be good. I still sound like sh**. It's impossible to spend time with everybody, and I'm sorry I didn't. But this was excellent and I would definitely do it again."
