Although we normally see Justin Timberlake doing musical collaborations with Andy Samberg, that doesn’t mean he can’t pair up with other SNL vets.
On yesterday’s broadcast of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Timberlake and Fallon—with assistance from house band The Roots—celebrated ‘A History of Rap’ with an impressive medley. (Artists highlighted in the performance include Jay-Z, The Sugarhill Gang, Beastie Boys, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Digital Underground and Kanye West.)
Seriously—is there anything Timberlake can’t do?

Apparently men aren’t the only ones who are “Hot N Cold” in Katy Perry‘s life. Muppets are too.
In this video for Sesame Street, the soon-to-be married singer struggles to act to figure out why Elmo is being so wishy-washy with her. “You don’t really want to play ... no. You just really want to go ... go,” she sings.
Maybe Elmo really just wants to see her run around in that dress? Just sayin’…

What Do Snoop Dogg and David Beckham Have in Common?

You take two huge stars like Snoop Dogg and David Beckham, and you may have some trouble finding the similarities. One’s American, one’s English. One’s a rapper, the other’s an athlete. But both are married men - and both happen to have two sons.
Industry gossip says that the Doggfather and David Beckham may work together, through their four male children, on a new song. The number is part of an album Snoop is putting together featuring a multitude of celebs. The kids could be in the recording studio as early as December.

Mix Tape: Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, Jay-Z and U2

-Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah are teaming up for a new musical project. The two will star in Joyful Noise, a movie about a church choir they want to save.
-Interesting tweets aren’t the only things Kanye West has to offer these days. West has announced that he’ll be “dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas.” The track could be a Kanye tune or a “new Jay song etc.” He’s calling the event “good Fridays.”
-Speaking of Jay-Z, the rapper will be joining U2 for stops in Australia and New Zealand. Tickets for the five dates - Auckland, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth - will go on sale starting September 3. That leg of the tour begins November 25.
-Singer Faith Evans was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department over the weekend for suspicion of DUI. Notorious B.I.G.‘s widow, who had her car impounded, is prepping to release an album in October.

New Kids and Backstreet Boys Team Up for Tour

Boy band fans (or should we call them man bands now?) will see all their dreams realized in 2011: the New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys are close to teaming up for a tour of the United States. (Too bad it’s not 1996.)
NKOTB recently reunited, and now it seems they’re ready to take the act (back) on the road. Reportedly, the two bands are in negotiations with Live Nation Entertainment to book the event.
The New Kids teamed up with the Boys once before, performing together at Radio City Music Hall. A third band is also being considered for the tour. Boyz II Men is rumored to be the first pick.

LISTEN: Justin Timberlake Sings Backup for Sheryl Crow

When it came to recording “Sign Your Name” for her new album, Sheryl Crow didn’t have to look very far for a backup singer.
Crow, who happened to be working in the same studios as Justin Timberlake, said their collaboration was simply the result of a hallway conversation. “I’ve always liked him. I played (the song) for him, and when it got to the chorus he’s like, ‘Who’s doing the backgrounds?’ I said ‘We haven’t done them yet,’ and he said, ‘I got it,’” she recalled to Billboard. “It was all very organic and, man, perfect. People have no idea how talented this guy is.”

Got Talent? Susan Boyle’s Searching for Singers

“When I did Britain’s Got Talent, I was given a chance by Simon Cowell to show what I could do.” These are the words of Susan Boyle, who is now extending an opportunity to one lucky wannabe.
Boyle has orchestrated Susan’s Search, a new singing competition which will give one vocalist a shot at getting into the recording industry. “Susan’s Search is about giving other people an opportunity. It’s about letting them live the dream that they have always wanted to do,” she explained.
Enter the contest by singing “Silent Night” to Boyle’s YouTube page. The winning singer will record a duet with Boyle on her upcoming album.

After watching Jimmy Kimmel and Drake perform “Tweet Tweet,” you might find it hard not to “follow” them on their own Twitter accounts (found here and here).

-A surprise Jay-Z performance outside David Letterman’s studio will not happen on Monday. A permit was not granted for the concert by New York City officials.
-A future reunion for Jay-Z’s wife (Beyonce) and the other Destiny’s Child ladies will also not happen. Ex-manager Matthew Knowles squashed all rumors about a performance or an album.
-According to one person “A Day in the Life” was worth $1.2 million. That’s how much handwritten lyrics to the John Lennon-penned song were sold for this week.
-Please don’t let me be misunderstood. Mary J. Blige will be playing Nina Simone in a movie about the singer’s life. Shooting on Nina will start this fall.
-Sophie B. Hawkins (remember her?) is donating all proceeds from her song “The Land, the Sea and the Sky” to help clean-up efforts in the Gulf area. The song is available on iTunes.

Matthew Morrison Goes Somewhere Over the Rainbow with Leona Lewis

We may be used to seeing guest stars on Glee, but we’re not quite used to seeing this.
Wednesday night in London, singer Leona Lewis welcomed a surprise guest onstage during her concert at O2 Arena: Matthew Morrison. The actor, who is currently in the area working on his solo CD, joined Lewis for a rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Followers of the show know quite well this isn’t the first time Matthew has taken on the classic song. Gleeks recently saw Will Schuester perform it with Puck (Mark Salling) during the season finale. (In the event you missed that cover, you can watch it after the jump.)
