Refunds Being Offered for Michael Jackson Tickets
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours,
NOTE: Refunds are only being offered to those who “purchased tickets through authorized agents.”
Later this week, refunds for Michael Jackson’s planned concerts will be offered in full.
Although many will still have to eat the cost of the flights they purchased, they will at least get back the service fees they were charged along with the ticket price.
Those wanting to remember the King of Pop could opt for a piece of memorabilia instead. Up until August 14, fans can choose to receive a commemorative concert ticket in lieu of a refund. The souvenirs, printed with the lenticular process, were designed by the artist himself.
Both options will become available starting on July 1. More information will be offered at MichaelJacksonLive.com.

Michael Jackson Remembered By Stars

We gve you a look at celebrities mourning Michael Jackson on Twitter, but many have released longer statements as well. Madonna says she “can’t stop crying” about the death of Michael Jackson.
The singer has been sobbing uncontrollably since she heard the 50-year-old Jackson had passed away yesterday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home. She said: “I can’t stop crying over the sad news. I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless.”
Singer Sir Elton John was halfway though his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball when he heard about Michael’s death. He broke the news to his guests - including Liz Hurley, Hugh Grant, Lily Allen and Kelly Osbourne - before dedicating his song Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me to Michael. Nearly half of his guests left after they found out about the death.
Britney Spears was one of the first to express her grief about the pop icon’s passing. In a statement issued last night, she said: “I was so excited to see his show in London. We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I’m devastated he’s gone!”

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, The Charts, Pop, iTunes,
It should come as no surprise that less than 24 hours after Michael Jackson’s death, his library is dominating the iTunes sales chart. You can check out the entire Michael Jackson music library if you want to get in on the action.
What is surprising? Although he currently has 39 entries in the Top 100, his highest chart position is #2. What’s at #1? ‘I Gotta Feeling’ from the Black Eyed Peas. (Perez Hilton’s rivals are also still sitting at #3 with ‘Boom Boom Pow.’)
So which songs are fans are downloading the most? The King of Pop’s ‘Man in the Mirror’ currently sits at #2 while ‘Thriller’ stands at #4 and ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ at #5. ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’ and ‘Smooth Criminal’ are the only other tunes ranked in The Top 10.
Update: Looks like 8 of the Top 10 iTunes albums are also Michael Jackson’s work.

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, Has Died
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Industry News, Pop, Rock,
It is alleged the ‘Thriller’ singer passed away from cardiac arrest today, June 25th 2009. The news was first broken by TMZ, with CNN reporting he was in a coma. Emergency services in California confirm they rushed a 50-year-old man to hospital this afternoon, but strict privacy laws mean that they cannot confirm if it was the singer.
TMZ reported: “Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. When paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back. A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived. Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but they had no luck. We’re told one of the staff members at Jackson’s home called 911. LaToya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.”
The singer’s family are believed to be at the UCLA hospital in the city, which has been cordoned off by police tape.
Michael - who has three children, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 10 and seven-year-old Prince Michael II - was believed to have been suffering from skin cancer and was due to embark on a comeback 50-date residency at O2 Arena in London next month. The first dates of the tour were delayed amid concerns for his health.
Uri Geller - one of Michael’s closest friends - told Sky News: “Like the whole world I’m absolutely devastated and lost for words because everyone expected him to come to England. He was in good health - he was rehearsing and dancing. I’m shocked.”

50 Cent bored with hip-hop
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Collaborations, Upcoming Releases, Hip-Hop & Rap,
50 Cent‘s interest in hip-hop is “dwindling away”. Fiddy - real name Curtis Jackson - says people’s quest for money is starting to undermine the genre and he can barely recognize the reasons why he got involved anymore. He said: “I think people are so conscious of the numbers they’re not being creative anymore.” Despite his disillusionment with the genre, the rapper - who has other ventures away from music, including fashion and movies - is looking forward to releasing his Before I Self Destruct album later this year, which boasts a number of collaborations.
He added to Billboard magazine: “When Wisin and Yandel sent the actual concept, I listened to it and the melodies completely fit me. It could be a song that I could do apart from them. So we’re meeting on a ground that is completely comfortable for both of us. My duet with Justin Timberlake, for example - there is more compromise for me there. The content is similar to what you can see from 50 Cent, but the actual rap, style and cadence is different. But when I go into the song with Wisin and Yandel I didn’t even have to make those cadence changes.
“When these guys finish mixing I’ll finish making the decisions. People look at my projects as if it’s only 50, but it’s really 50 Cent up to Dr Dre and Eminem standards.”

Beyonce demands car ride for 45-foot trip
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, R&B / Soul,
Beyonce Knowles took a 45-foot car ride from her London hotel to a shop. The Single Ladies singer took two chauffeur driven vehicles containing her team and bodyguards, trailed by paparazzi, on a car journey from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel - located in the exclusive Knightsbridge area of the UK capital - to the Harvey Nicholls department store across the street. Beyonce reportedly demanded on being driven because she didn’t want to walk in her high heels.
After being escorted around the designer store for just 20 minutes she took her car back to her hotel. A source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Beyonce has always been down to earth but her antics were astonishing. It looked like they were preparing for a long journey, but it was over as soon as it began. It would have been much quicker to have strolled across the road.
The 27-year-old singer is in the UK for the final dates of her I Am world tour.

Michael Jackson training with Lou Ferrigno
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Pop,
Michael Jackson is being trained by Lou Ferrigno. The former Incredible Hulk, and former Mr. Universe, is paying secret visits to the Thriller star’s Los Angeles home to help him prepare for his forthcoming This Is It run of shows at London’s O2 arena. A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Lou has been visiting Michael to build him up so he can perform his dance routines. But Michael refuses to lift weights. He doesn’t want to bulk up.”
The 50-year-old singer - who weighs a reported 126 pounds and eats just one meal a day - is reportedly battling skin cancer and is said to be terrified gaining weight will damage his chances of beating the disease. Michael and Lou struck up a friendship two years ago when Jackson began using the 57-year-old actor’s gym. Lou said at the time: “Michael is more delicate. Our trainer conditioned him for dancing. He likes me, he feels safe with me. He was nervous about people looking at him when he’s training.”
Last month, it was revealed that Michael Jackson would kick off his concert run on July 13, five days later than originally planned. Shows scheduled to take place on July 10, 12 and 14 have been moved to the end of the residency in March 2010.

Lauryn Hill Cancels European Tour
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, Performances, Hip-Hop & Rap, R&B / Soul,
An undisclosed health issue has forced the cancellation of Lauryn Hill’s entire European tour.
The Fugees’ former lead singer had been scheduled to headline the Stockholm Jazz Festival on July 15. Performances in Sweden, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Italy, France and Austria were to follow.
Hill’s agent gave no further details while contacting festival organizers earlier this week.
Those shows would have come nearly 10 years after the debut of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. That album went on to see five Grammys after its release in 1998.
Since that time, the R&B singer has spent most of her time out of the limelight. Lauryn and her boyfriend, Rohan Marley, currently have five children together.
