No Doubt Make Music by Trial and Error

No Doubt say their music is a series of "accidents and mistakes." The "Just a Girl" hitmakers have never had a specific plan when it comes to recording music and admit their new album Push and Shove was created by trial and error.
"We don't know what we're doing. Everything's basically a series of accidents and mistakes," singer Gwen Stefani jokingly told MTV News. Tony Kanal, the band's bassist, added, "Honestly ... we just make music that we love and we want to play. We get inspired by something, and we kind of go with it."
No Doubt were heavily influenced by dancehall music for their first album in eleven years, working with the likes of Major Lazer and reggae artist Busy Signal, but they say they have always been inspired by Jamaican vibes and have adopted a "just go with it" attitude when it comes to making music.
"We've always been huge fans of ska and reggae music, and when we were making the Rock Steady record, we were super into dancehall - we still are. And on the Return of Saturn tour, before we made Rock Steady, we were having dancehall parties every night, and I feel that really fueled and fed into making Rock Steady, so much that we actually went to Jamaica and recorded with incredible Jamaican producers down there. I think if something inspires us, we go with it, we know when it's working and we just kind of run with it. It seems to work for us," Tony explained.
Push and Shove is to be released on September 25.
