Final Harry Potter Book Will Become Two Movies

Even though J.K. Rowling put an end to the Harry Potter series with last year’s final book, the characters will be guaranteed life until 2011.
Although the adaptation for the sixth story (Harry Potter and and the Half-Blood Prince) is still currently in production, plans for the seventh novel have already been announced. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will actually spawn two separate films.
Instead of sacrificing parts of the 784-page tome to accommodate one installment, Warner Bros. will be stretching the series out into the next decade. (Think of it as their family-friendly version of Kill Bill.)
David Yates, the director behind Phoenix, will also be the one behind the last two chapters. He is currently working on getting Prince finished in time for the November 21 release date.

Trailer for Lost Boys 2
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Drama, Horror, Sequels, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
UPDATE: I stand corrected. It turns out Corey Haim will be in the film after all, though his role is being left vague. For all we know, he could be a corpse.
Here it is - the moment you’ve all been waiting for: The release of the Lost Boys 2 trailer.
The sequel not only comes out 21 years after the original, the movie is also set “in another seaside town” 21 years later. Weirdly enough, Corey Feldman - who reprises his Edgar Frog character - looks exactly the same. (His brother in the 1987 version, Jamison Newlander, also returns as Alan Frog.)
Although it was once believed that Corey Haim would be starring as well, he is not in this very unnecessary sequel. (Let’s just say the guy has ‘issues’.)
And in case you wondering why the girl in the clip looks so familiar, that’s Autumn Reeser (a.k.a. Taylor Townsend from The O.C.).

Box Office Breakdown: Theatergoers Take a Trip to 10,000 BC

One year ago, 300 pulled in an astounding $70 million dollars. This past weekend, another period drama grossed exactly half that much. Half, schmalf—it was still enough for a win.
Warner Bros.’ 10,000 BC easily topped its futuristic competitors with a $35 million take over this last weekend. The total was leaps and bounds better than the amount produced by second place finisher, College Road Trip. The Disney flick, starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symone, rang up only $13.6 million.
Meanwhile, last week’s #1, Semi-Pro, was already showing signs of fatigue. The basketball comedy fell to 5th place and earned a disappointing $5.7 million. Does this mean the Will Ferrell sports era is finally over?

The Worst Movie Title So Far This Year
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Lionsgate, Adaptation, Horror, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
Some movie titles are meant to give you a chuckle (Snakes on a Plane), others make you question the film overall.
This upcoming horror flick is based off a Clive Barker short story by the same name. I don’t want to give the punchline away (you can read it after the jump, if you’d like), so I’m going to withhold the name. If you’re anything like the audience I saw this trailer with, you’ll be laughing by the end.

Robert Downey Jr. Plays a Black Man in Next Role
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Comedy, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
While many have been oohing and ahhing over the pics of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, its his work in a less splashy flick that may generate the most talk.
In the upcoming movie, Tropic Thunder, Downey plays an actor who plays a black man in a film he is shooting. Instead of rewriting a role originally written for an African-American, Robert’s character, Kirk Lazarus, opts to go the method route and dyes his skin. (You can see him in the picture next to Jack Black.)
This movie already came with buzz attached to it long before Downey’s role was revealed. This was the film Owen Wilson was attached to at the time of his suicide attempt.
So what do you think? Should this role be considered controversial? Should it simply be taken into context? Should we just be happy that it’s not 1986’s Soul Man?

New Wanted Trailer Released
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Universal, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Romance, Thrillers, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
And the happiness continues for the comic book junkies out there! Universal Pictures has just released a new trailer for its upcoming film, Wanted.
Due out this June, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy star in the graphic novel adaptation, written by J.G. Jones and Mark Millar. Wanted is Russian director Timur Bekmambetov’s first American film.
With the release of the trailer, many have pointed out the major differences between the film and its graphic novel roots. Some have even started to compare the movie to last year’s ridiculous-but-fun action movie, Shoot ‘Em Up; however, I am not one to judge a movie solely based on its three-minute trailer. While I am hoping that this film does follow the comic more closely than it appears in the trailer, I think it looks like a good enough film on its own, no matter how “cheesy.” With a cast like that, how can anyone go wrong?

Zack Snyder is officially a god to comic book fans everywhere. Snyder has released, via the film’s production blog, the first photos of the Watchmen cast in costume, and they look absolutely amazing. Alan Moore (V For Vendetta, From Hell) and Dave Gibbons have good reason to be proud. Too bad we’re going to have to wait exactly an entire year for the film’s release!

Patrick Swayze Diagnosed with Cancer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Rumors,
After rumors starting swirling around the internet today, reps for Patrick Swayze had to confirm the unfortunate news: the actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The National Enquirer has been reporting exclusively that the 55-year-old has been given only five weeks left to live. The tabloid claims the cancer, which was discovered in late January, has already spread to other organs.
While the details of Swayze’s current condition was left vague, a statement released today seems to contradict the dire news:
“Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.
Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family.”
Whatever the truth is, we truly wish the best for Swayze and the rest of his family.
