Although it was initially unclear who might accept any posthumous Heath Ledger honors, there no is debate over who will receive his Golden Globe award.
According to Ledger’s ecstatic mother, the statue he was awarded last night - and any others that may follow - will eventually wind up with Heath’s daughter, Matilda. Sally Bell told People. “At this stage she is only so young, but down the track she will have all these things. It will belong to her because she is part of him.”
“It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father’s abilities and [the] respect he had in the industry. That is such a wonderful legacy to leave,” Bell added.
Well, the family better start clearing some space in Matilda’s room now. Something tells me she’ll be collecting a few more mementos soon…

He may have lost out to Bruce Springsteen last night, but Clint Eastwood was still a big winner this weekend. After 4 weeks in limited theaters, the 78-year-old’s film became the top movie in wide release.
Eastwood’s directorial project not only pulled in $29.4 million over the last three days ($40.5 million to date), it outranked the vehicles from Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Will Smith. Gran Torino also earned the best per screen average of any charter in the Top Ten.
Despite opening on approximately 600 more screens than the first place finisher, #2’s Bride Wars grossed nearly $4000 less per theater. The Kate Hudson-Anne Hathaway comedy also averaged less than #3’s The Unborn.

Now that Taylor Lautner’s job has been secured, let’s move on to the next piece of New Moon casting buzz.
According to Twilight star Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), High School Musical‘s Vanessa Hudgens is working to get a role in a new franchise. Greene confirmed to MTV that the 20-year-old has already auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, New Moon‘s disgruntled and heartbroken female werewolf.
What do you think of this possibility? Do you think Vanessa has the ability to sink her teeth into this role? Or should Gabriella Montez focus on her college years?

It was only a matter of time before someone redid the classic tale of Scrooge…and who better to take on another persona than Jim Carrey?
Later this fall, Disney’s version of A Christmas Carol will come to you in 3-D. The film written and directed by Robert Zemeckis (Beowulf) was shot entirely with performance capture technology.
Carrey, who plays the central character of Ebenezer Scrooge, also stars as the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. Meanwhile, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) will pull triple-duty as Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim.

UPDATE: You can find out who eventually won that Golden Globe here.
Could Anne Hathaway soon be picking up her second award of the week?
On Thursday night, the star of Rachel Getting Married picked up a Best Actress statue at the 14th annual Critics’ Choice Awards. (Hathaway actually tied with Doubt‘s Meryl Streep, her Devil Wears Prada co-star, for the award.) Now she may be adding a Golden Globe to her mantel as well.
If you were to check out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s web site earlier this week, you might have noticed a small star where it shouldn’t have been. Or at least not yet. The star, which usually indicated a category’s winner, was placed next to Hathway’s name. Was it simply an accident…or the result of a twitchy finger? Well, we’ll know for certain this Sunday when the 66th annual event airs on NBC.

I guess we shouldn’t be expecting any nominations for Nicole Kidman this season.
In an interview with a Sydney radio station, the 41-year-old admitted she wasn’t proud of her performance in Australia. The insecurity about her work in the lavish Baz Luhrmann production even forced the actress to quickly free her native country.

A big-name directing duo has just landed a hot acting pair.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have just joined Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s upcoming productions of Tintin. The two pictures, which will be filmed as 3-D performance-capture projects, is based off The Adventures of Tintin, a popular Belgian comic book series.
The Shaun of the Dead actors will play Thompson and Thomson, identical-yet-unrelated detectives who sport slightly different mustaches. The duo joins Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), who had already been cast as Captain Haddock. Meanwhile, the role of Tintin, the young reporter at the center of the stories, has not yet been filled. (A previous selection had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.)
The first of the two planned Sony/Paramount co-productions will be helmed by Spielberg. Jackson will direct the second.

UPDATE: Warner Bros. and FOX have settled the lawsuit.
Time hasn’t been kind to fans of Watchmen. Although we’ve already hit the New Year, the battle between Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox has just grown nastier. So what will this mean for the March 6 premiere?
Late last month, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess ruled that Fox did have rights to the graphic novel adaptation. Although the studio had the opportunity to launch the film back in the late ‘80s (and had spent over a $1 million developing the project), the movie never came to fruition. Producer Larry Gordon allegedly agreed to check back with Fox first on any future plans, but later took Watchmen over to Legendary Pictures and Warner. Fox filed then filed a lawsuit back in February claiming Gordon neglected to properly acquire their interest before making the move.

Even though the Golden Globes are still days away, Mickey Rourke is already in high demand. In just 24 hours, The Wrestler star has had his named mentioned for two different projects.
Late yesterday, it was announced that the 52-year-old would be joining Sylvester Stallone’s next directorial project. In The Expendables, Rourke will play an arms dealer who assists a group of mercenaries aiming to take down a South American dictator. Mickey will join Sly, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lungdren in the project. Stallone, who worked with Rourke in Get Carter, also wrote the film.
Now less than 24 hours later, Variety is reporting that Rourke is being considered for Iron Man 2. If talks go well, he would star as villain Crimson Dynamo, a Russian arms dealer who fights with a nuclear-powered suit of armor.
Rourke, a likely Oscar contender for Wrestler, is currently nominated for a Golden Globe. The latter ceremony can be seen this Sunday, January 11th on NBC.
