On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Extras working on Hannah Montana: The Movie got a bit more excitement yesterday than they would have liked.

During a shoot in Tennessee, high winds forced a large piece of lighting equipment to fly toward an occupied Ferris wheel. Although the incident looked quite scary, no one was seriously injured.

The Spirit is due out this ChristmasIn a recent blog post, graphic novelist/director Frank Miller addressed complaints and concerns aroused by fans upon the circulation of the teaser trailer for The Spirit, which can be seen after the jump.

In Will Eisner’s comics, the Spirit’s suit and hat are printed blue. In the posters, ads, and trailer, he is seen wearing black. Miller explained that due to printing issues, the Spirit’s clothes appear blue when meant to be black (take Superman’s hair, for instance).

Similarly, the black attire and red hints a tad reminiscent of Miller’s own Sin City, but he assures readers that the teaser trailer is just that—a tease. “To drive the point home, The Spirit, despite any accidental impression left by that kickass teaser-trailer, is a full-color movie. Sin City is, visually, a playhouse for black and white,” he clarifies.

Sex and the City Movie

Thanks to a mob of high-heeled women, the big-screen adaptation of took in nearly $57 million over the past three days. Pretty impressive considering the film was expected to land somewhere in the $25-$35 million range. But Carrie and Company did just more than score first place, their hard work put them into the record books:

  • Sex and the City had the best opening weekend for an R-rated comedy.
  • The film’s debut topped any live-action adaptation of a TV show. (The original Mission Impossible raked in $45 million.)
  • SATC‘s premiere surpassed all romantic comedies including Hitch ($43.1 million) and ($30.7 million).
  • It was the fifth best showing for any R-rated movie ever.

Sex and the City movie

The weekend is over, the results are in, and is definitely the hen of the walk. The movie raked in $55.7 million this weekend, driving Indiana Jones down to the number-two box office position. But now that all the surprises have been spilled, one question remains: what’s up with that a-character-is-going-to-die rumor?

SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t already seen the flick, maybe you don’t want to know, but let me assuage at least one Sex fear: there is no death in the movie. As far as we know, even Miranda’s cat Fatty is still alive and well. Steve’s mom is just fine and living in a home, Magda’s still kicking and yes, all four girls remain well within the realm of the living. So…what’s up with that?

Lorenzo's Oil

Given that I had first seen Lorenzo’s Oil nearly 16 years ago, this bit of news came as quite a shock to me: Lorenzo Odone, the real-life person the movie was based on, died this past Friday at the age of 30. He lived over 20 years longer than the doctors had originally predicted.

The 1992 movie, starring and Nick Nolte, told the story of Augusto and Michaela Odone - the parents of Lorenzo. After their child is diagnosed with ALD (a supposedly incurable nerve disorder), the two do their own research and eventually become authorities on the topic. They later helped to create ‘Lorenzo’s Oil’, a kind of olive oil that helped stop the progression of their son’s disease.

Michael Patrick KingCould fans possibly get more Sex?

Just in case you thought the story was over for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte - don’t put your glasses down quite yet. While it could be another five years before we see the women back in action, the door on will never be completely closed.

Even though he didn’t create the current installment with a sequel in mind, writer/producer/director says he wouldn’t be opposed to revisiting the series.

“I wrote that movie with a beginning, middle and end because I didn’t want to leave the audience unfulfilled. The actresses are great, and if the gods smile and people are still interested, why not?”

Universal Lot Fire

UPDATE: The cause was determined to be accidental. The fire was started by workers using a blowtorch.

Although the flames are not entirely extinguished, a fire at the lot in Los Angeles is now contained. The blaze, which erupted around 5 a.m. this morning has injured four firefighters. It has also damaged approximately 4-5 structures including New York Street, Courthouse Square, the video vault and the building that houses the King Kong exhibit.

While no cause has yet been determined, it is believed filming was going on at the time.

The fire, located at the backlot near the theme park, should not interrupt tonight’s taping of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.
