Reese Witherspoon has acquired the rights to the Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp series of children's books.
The actress and her producing partner Bruna Panandrea's company Pacific Standard have signed up M.A. Larson's debut work, and are said to hope to turn the books - of which Putnam Children's recently picked up as a two-story series - into a franchise.
Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp is described as a modern fairytale about a school which shapes girls into warrior princesses to battle against a growing problem of wicked witches.
"Finally, there is a princess story that reflects the values young women truly want to embody. These princesses are strong, independent and fierce, and the knights are their match. In telling their story, Larson has created a magical universe that everyone will love to get lost in," said Reese, who is expected to take on a supporting role in the film.
Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp is the first project to be picked up by Pacific Standard.
