Michael Mann to Direct Big Stone Grid
Michael Mann is set to direct The Big Stone Grid.
The director is in talks to helm the police drama, which is about two decorated detectives who uncover a terrifying extortion ring that operates within the secret underbelly of New York City. Sony Pictures bought S. Craig Zahler's scribe script last year and Michael De Luca is set to produce.
However, sources say he is likely to change the script once he looks over it and could even relocate to Los Angeles. Mann is likely to next direct Go Like Hell, the duel between Ford vs. Ferrari for sports car supremacy in the 60s that he is developing at Fox. He's also executive producing the HBO series Luck with David Milch.
Mann recently said working on a TV show was no different from being on a movie set: "Everything we do on Luck is absolutely no different than if we'd had been doing it in a feature film. There's no short cuts. The specificity of what every single line might mean. Everything Dustin Hoffman does. Kevin Dunn is as authentic in the last scene of the last episode as he is in the first scene of the first episode. He hasn't said to himself, 'Oh wow, this works, I'm wonderful.' There's none of that vanity. It's just great, authentic work. And John Ortiz, he's world-class.''
