Jon Stewart Takes Back the Oscars
In a wise move by the Academy, Jon Stewart, best known as ever-sardonic host of The Daily Show, has been passed the coveted torch once again and will host the 2008 Academy Awards. If you remember, Stewart had hosting duties in 2006 and brought to the show his own irreverent humor and affability.
Of course, last year the hilarious Ellen DeGeneres led the show with confidence, but had more than a few awkward moments—I can only picture the ill-conceived bit with her vacuuming in the isles aisles. Now I’m not saying Ellen didn’t hold her own, but as the show went on I longed for more improvisational humor and Hollywood ribbing than she could give.
Stewart’s particular brand of comedy tends to counter-balance the often arrogant and narcissistic side of Hollywood, walking the line between humorous and disrespectful with utmost precision. In short, he’s perfect. The 2008 Academy Awards will take place on February 24.
