Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
Jake Gyllenhaal: The Jarhead star may be prepping to play another military man in Source Code, a sci-fi thriller. The movie, which will be directed by Duncan Jones (Moon), centers on a soldier who wakes up as a commuter on a train. The passenger is forced to relive the experience again and again until the mystery behind a bombing is determined. Shooting should start in early 2010.
Anna Faris: The House Bunny is shifting gears to work with…bears. Faris is one of several stars in talks for Yogi Bear, a live-action/CG-animated version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. If all negotiations go as planned, Anna would play a documentary filmmaker who works with both Yogi (Dan Akyroyd) and his constant companion, Boo-Boo (Justin Timberlake).
Zach Galifianakis: The Hangover star may come perilously close to the edge in Puss in Boots, a prequel to Shrek 2. If he signs on, Zach would work alongside Antonio Banderas (Puss) and Salma Hayek (Kitty) as famous nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty. The spinoff is set for release on Nov. 4, 2011.
Johnny Depp: This could be one of the sexiest pairings since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The Public Enemies star is being courted for The Tourist, a film currently starring Jolie. Depp may take on the role of an American tourist who gets caught up in an Interpol investigation. Although Sam Worthington and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck were once attached to the project, both have since departed over creative differences. Production may start in February.
Owen Wilson: The Marley & Me actor will now be the one retrieving balls in Marmaduke, Hollywood’s latest contribution to the live-action/CG-animated genre. Wilson will voice the popular comic strip hound known for creating chaos. The lengthy cast list also includes Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy.
Katie Holmes: The Mad Money star will serve two roles on The Romantics: actress and executive producer. Holmes joins Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong in this story about a group of college buds getting back together for a wedding. Katie’s part was previously filled by Liv Tyler.
Gwyneth Paltrow: The Academy Award winner will play the wife of another Oscar-winning actress in The Danish Girl. The film will tell the real-life story of Einar Wegener (Kidman), a Danish man who eventually became the world’s first post-op transsexual. Paltrow replaces a previously-cast Charlize Theron as Greta Wegener, Einar’s wife. Thomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) will direct.
