made an appearance this evening on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, with Fallon and his guests getting to try out the controller-less add-on. Kudo Tsunado was on hand to show off Project Natal, and just like at E3, he was wearing his huge sunglasses despite being indoors. Jimmy Fallon and crew got to slap balls around, and also played a little Burnout Paradise. Check out the video above.

GEN-XThis has to be the ultimate gift for anyone who couldn’t get over their first game system. The GEN-X plays both old Nintendo and Sega Genesis games, including Japanese imports, in stereo (depending on the game.) Included controllers work with either system after you have connected it to your TV. At a size of 17 x 15 x 4cm, the GEN-X Game System will set you back $39.99. By the way, the site cautions you about cleaning the contacts on old games and we know for a fact that if you use a gentle metal brush with a gentle hand, it will make Sonic and Mario positively gleeful.

Kids PlayingA recent study by Pew finds that 97% of American teens of the age 12 to 17 play computer, portable, console or online video games. When asked, half of them claimed they played yesterday and the ones who admitted to daily playing say they did so for at least an hour. Here are some of the other statistics:

  • 86% of teens play on a console like the Xbox, PlayStation, or Wii.
  • 73% play games on a desktop or a laptop computer.
  • 60% use a portable gaming device like a Sony PlayStation Portable, a Nintendo DS, or a Game Boy.
  • 48% use a cell phone or handheld organizer to play games.
  • 80% of teens play five or more different game genres, and 40% play eight or more types.
  • Girls play an average of 6 different game genres; boys average 8 different types.

We expect that if Pew queried adults, they would find at least the same statistics, or more for those who play MMORPGs like WOW. As for the good news, another study last September found that, for the most part, teens playing games resulted in positive social action.

Google logoTetris

We wondered why we kept seeing the almost intelligible Google logo of late, until we realized it was in honor of 25 years of the puzzle game. If you were one of those who saw it in your head after playing for hours, shame on you. If you weren’t, have your own marathon with the David de Niese’s unlicensed NES Cafe Tengen Tetris. We bet you will get hooked enough to have your own nightmares.

EA Active review

I want to workout without going to the gym – much like the millions of people that have purchased Wiifit. However, I’m not a huge fan of the game. Having to stop every time after a small workout was very time consuming and lead me not to want to “play”.  EA Sports Active does not only look like a lot of fun but it also gives you a real workout feeling.  Giving you the option to customize your routines and what parts of the body you want to work out, it gives you the variety you need to keep going. It also offers levels from easy to hard so everyone one can accomplish the routine they set out to do.

For those looking for more motivation, they can opt to the 30-day challenge. It’ll keep track of your workouts, nutrition, give you the historic graphs of your progress and will give you tips for relieving stress, eating healthier, and motivation to keep your challenge going.

EA Active is a gym, personal trainer and nutritionist all in one game-like experience.  Tons of workout modes, exercises and abilities to customize your sessions, your workouts are sure to never get repetitive and keep you going.  It’s a great substitution for anyone that feels WiiFit does not give them a real workout experience.

Description

All Points Bulletin (APB) is a third-person action game from the creators of Crackdown, Real Time Worlds. “Focusing on ‘the three C’s’—creativity, conflict and celebrity” APB gives the player freedom to create anything they want.

Creating your own characters and cars are things we have done before in games like Oblivion and Forza, but APB pushes this feature like never before.  When in character creation, standard options like gender, skin tone and other physical features are available for customization. But APB goes a little bit deeper and allows you to pick a hairstyle and how long it needs to be or even pick breast cup-sizes for the girls. Tattoos? They got those too. Design your tattoo art, color and size to place anywhere you want it to be.

PS2Just when you were thinking of retiring your PlayStation 2 in favor of a PS3, Sony announced at the E3 that they will be releasing 100 new titles this year. CEO Jack Tretton claims, “We’re committed to the PS2 for as long as users see value in it.”

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the 9 year-old console itself is only $99.00 and now perhaps others will opt for the cheaper game system. Tretton also said that there will be 35 exclusive games for the PS3 in 2009.

Evil Controllers Xbox 360

I am usually not one to go for third-party controllers. It is all about familiarity and once I am accustomed to something – I don’t want it to be changed.  Because of this, I was skeptical at first as I walked by the Evil Controllers booth at ; but Gears of War 2 was the game they were using to demo the game. How could I resist?

The controllers are a base model of the rapid fire controllers for the . The mod is operated by pressing and holding the modded button on the underside of the controller.

The analog sticks or “Evil Sticks” feel incredibly smooth and can feel how this would improve your gameplay in First-Person Shooter game. Evil controllers also give you the option to customize the controller lights to blue or red, if you really want to fancy it up.

Although pricey, they are an upgrade to a official Xbox 360 controller.  If you are serious about your shooters, I would recommend giving these controllers a try. Evil Controllers run from $109.99-$169.99 and you can buy the “Evil Sticks” alone for $69.99.

DiRT 2 e3 2009 impressions

As a big fan of DiRT and having put in many hours into the game, I was extremely excited to get my hands on the demo at the Microsoft booth at this years .  DiRT 2 looks and feels like DiRT, but with a kick. Powered by the third generation of the EGO Engine’s racing game technology, DiRT 2 offers tuned-up car-handling and new damage engine effects.

It’s all about details and that’s what makes the difference. Depending on your car, tuning or even what type of road you are on, every vehicle will feel different. Find a car you love?  You are able to use your favorite vehicle and tune it with add-ons. With seven vehicle classes and a large collection of officially licensed rally cars and off-roads vehicles, I doubt you will have any problem in finding the best vehicle.
