PS3 Price

According to Chris Morris, of CNN/Money, we can expect the PS3 to retail for more than the Xbox 360 launched at. Another analyst, P.J. McNealy, suggested that the machine could actually retail for $700 USD. I highly doubt the machine will go for $700, but $500 doesn’t seem completely out of range. The PS3’s cost will be driven up due to the inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive. Of course there are plenty of consumers out there who would be willing to pay a premium for the PS3 since it will allow for high definition movies and gaming all in one box, unlike the Xbox 360. It’s all still up in the air though - but maybe we’ll know more by E3?

Jack ThompsonOh Jack, what are we going to do with you? The lawyer who wants you to stop playing video games is at it again. This time though, in an interview with NetJack, he says that video games are “masturbatory” and that they’re not healthy. Hey Jack, you know that most people are able to put down a video game controller right? Heck, I just got back from the gym.

Video Game Addict Many hardcore gamers claim they’re “addicting to games” or that “games are addicting.” In truth though, these individuals most likely aren’t refering to the word addicting in the traditional sense.

In fact, dictionary.com has different definitions for the word addicting.

Nintendo DS JapanNintendo’s sorry. This is in regards to Japanese consumers who want a DS, but haven’t been able to get one. According to Game Daily, “The DS has actually become the fastest selling system in Japanese history, with over 5 million units sold in that country alone.” The fastest selling system in Japanese history! If that’s not an accomplishment, we don’t know what is. Keep up the good work Nintendo! Just keep up with the supply count as well.

Here’s some of what Nintendo said:

“During the year-end period, there was a shortage of our company’s portable gaming system, the Nintendo DS, due to a flood of demand which far exceeded our expectations,” said the release by Nintendo translated by YamaKiyo Press. “We greatly apologize for inconveniencing all of our customers and retailers.”

Xbox Live According to Bill Gates, that is. Here’s what the man recently said:

“We’ve got a lot of things that they don’t know that we’re doing, so we’ll keep them on edge a bit….We had to learn a lot with Xbox 1, and the decision to require broadband, to go with VoIP, but we learned a lot about wanting to put things into the operating system so you can chat even while you’re playing the games, it’s really a level of richness that the games are built on top of that we didn’t have that last time.

“We learned how to do that, we learned about contests and spectators, and so this is really a second generation of Live for us. It’s very based on software expertise, so it will be interesting to see what Sony does in that dimension.”

He added, “I don’t think there’s any doubt we’ll have a substantially higher share in this generation than we had last generation. It depends on our execution, it depends on Sony’s execution. This is a business we’re committed to, so we’re just going to keep doing our best.”

We’re excited as anyone about all of this. Personally, my favorite feature of the Xbox 360 may very well be its online integration. Being able to pull up your friends list whenever, check their accomplishments, and see what they’re up to at all times is pure bliss. Additionally, the Xbox Live Arcade has brought many treasures. Furthermore, on somewhat of a downer, he added that Halo 3 won’t nessicarily be released against PS3’s launch (as he had previously indicated) but when Bungie feels the game is ready.
