PS2 owners, it’s time to check your serial numbers. It appears that Sony is following in Microsoft’s footsteps by recalling a bunch of faulty power cords.
Sony is recalling 3.5 million faulty power adapters for its popular PlayStation 2 video game console because they may overheat and cause injury, the Japanese consumer electronics maker said Tuesday. In the United States, Sony received 38 reports of the adapters overheating, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. There were two reports of minor burns, one minor shock and four reports of minor property damage, the agency said.

The website for Rockstar’s new installment in the GTA series, Liberty City Stories, along with a new trailer for the game, has finally hit the internet. The story of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories takes place 3 years before the events of Grand Theft Auto 3, where we find that our main character Toni Cipriani has returned from laying low for the past 4 years after taking out a rival mob boss for the Leone crime family. Having welcomed him back with open arms, the Don Salvatore Leone is putting Toni to back work under the watchful eye of Vincenzo Cilli, one of his most trusted capo’s. Portland is the first of the three major Liberty City islands. As rich in industry as it is in underworld dealings, Portland is home to Don Salvatore Leone himself and where Toni gets re-acclimated to his previous life of crime. Portland is the seedier downtown area of Liberty City that has everything an aspiring thug could ask for from the temptations of the Red Light district to the dimly lit docks of Trenton, both perfect for taking care of bodies in various fashion. Fans of Grand Theft Auto 3 will instantly be familiar with such neighborhoods as St. Marks, Chinatown, Atlantic Quays and Hepburn Heights but as it’s 3 years earlier, some things may not be as you remember. Whether you need a good time or a place to hide out from the feds, Portland has what you are looking for.

A little while back there was a swimsuit issue of female game characters which turned out to be pretty popular. Playboy followed that up when they did a feature based on naked renderings of female game character, which also turned out to be fairly popular. So much so that they are doing it again this year:
So which lucky video vixens will be baring all? Jacqui, a cheerleader from “Midway’s Blitz: The League” will be in her god-given under-armor. Carla Valenti from Atari’s “Indigo Prophecy,” who plays a detective solving a rash of murders in New York City, will cleverly deduce that she’s nude in the issue. Capcom’s “Darkwatch” will offer two beauties, the arresting Cassidy, a blond deputy in the Old West, and Tala, a vampiric femme fatale who also appeared in last year’s pictorial when “Darkwatch” was still under the watch of Sammy Studios. Alexa, a reporter from VU Games’ “50 Cent: Bulletproof,” will, to quote 50, not only “party like it’s her birthday,” but party in her birthday suit.

Bungie’s Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort
Posted by Oscar M. Cantu Categories: Corporate News, Internet,
You’ve fought the flood in the game, now its time to fight it in the real world. Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past week, then you have seen the natural disaster our nation has faced with in Hurricane Katrina. Maybe you’ve helped in some shape or form in the last couple of days and we thank you for that - if you haven’t then here’s just one more reason for you to do so. Of course, if you already helped, please do so again. Bungie is now taking donations and giving you a T-Shirt for your generosity. For merely a $20 bill you will be donating to the Red Cross and getting a T-Shirt to show the world that gamers care about the victims of the devastating hurricane. At least $15 of those $20 dollars will go towards that donation. After you purchase one, be sure to tell everyone you know - the more people that buy the shirt, the more of a difference we can make.
Just so that we’re clear, of the $19.95 the shirt costs, about $15 in cleared funds will go straight to the Red Cross and directly to the disaster relief. Nobody, not Bungie, the Bungie store, or the distributor will clear a penny profit. That’s important. We basically want to get as much cash, as quickly as possible to those in dire need.

Capcom Offers Limited Edition Resident Evil 4 Collector’s Pack
Posted by Alex Grahmann Categories: Accessories, Action, PlayStation 2,
For anyone falling into the category of “extremely obsessed” when it comes to the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4, Capcom is now offering a special Collector’s Pack by way of their official homepage. The pack costs a measly $120 and includes the PS2 game, a 6-CD set of game music called the “Biohazard Sound Chronicle Best Track Box,” a 7” Leon figure, and a Resident Evil 4 t-shirt. Only 100 of these Collector’s packs will be available. The ironic twist in all of this is, of course, that if you’re obsessed enough to buy the Collector’s Pack, you probably own the game already, making its addition in this bundle somewhat redundant. Well, at least the Leon figure will be good company for the equally-useless bookends and statuettes you got with the Lord of Rings movies.

Nintendogs Strategy Guide, Including Secret Items and Dogs
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Nintendo DS, Simulation,
So I have been messing with Nintendogs since it launched, and it really is an impressive title. There is a lot on the surface, but there is even more if you dig a bit deeper into the game. I particularly love it when Apple (my Golden Retriever) happily finds me a present and brings it to me. If you are tired of walking your dog and putting it through competitions on to see it fail time and time again, check out the 1Up Nintendogs strategy guide. Within, you will find advanced tricks along with ways to unlock more dogs in your game. Unfortunately, still nothing on the whole “I don’t want to scoop poop” cheat code. Deal with it.

Oh, happy day. After many long months of speculation, it suddenly looks so clear. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is set to launch on November 25, 2005 as we predicted, the day after Thanksgiving. That being the case, you had best run out and pre-order this bad boy quickly, as I would expect the entire launch shipment to be gone by the end of Black Friday. After all, it is the biggest shopping day of the entire year. You can rest assured that plenty of parents are going to be picking this one up for Junior. Of course, for us hardcores, the midnight launch should take care of us. Is it rude to skip out on family/guests after Thanksgiving dinner to head over to Gamestop?

Microsoft Looking To Times Square For Xbox 360 Store?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Xbox 360,
Word on the street is that Microsoft has been sizing up the 18,000-square foot location at One Times Square to play host to an Xbox 360 store. The New York Post has reported that the company is strongly considering the possibility of opening a four-story retail location at this location, which happens to be the same building used for the annual dropping of the New Year’s ball. Those who have seen Microsoft’s Xbox booth at E3 know that the company could very easily fill four floors with nothing but Xbox 360 gaming goodness, and it doesn’t get much bigger than Times Square. It would also be a nice way for Microsoft to steal some attention away from the sleek Apple and Sony Style stores that are continually popping up, and would be more impressive than Nintendo’s Rockefeller Center store.

The next title in the Soul Calibur series is hitting PlayStation 2 this October. Namco has released an official site for the game that is full of Flash goodness. You can view clips of the individual characters from the game, as well as read the Soul Calibur storyline. This game is already shaping up to be one of the games that make us remember that there is still plenty of gaming left in this generation.
