OK, but here’s the problem with that. WE (you and I and the other gamers on the internet) remember the name. But we’re not the ones Nintendo is trying to target. The fact that we’re starting to soften on the name doesn’t mean that the mainstream public that Nintendo is going after are going to give them the same chance. It’s a dangerous game that Nintendo is playing, the stakes are high, but if they can pull it off, they’ll have a huge hit.

Roger, maybe you don’t see where Rob is going with this. You’re sort of right in the case that “If it plays poorly nobody will buy it, if it plays well everyone will buy it,” but some people may not give the machine the time of day to even try it out because the name has such a childish tone to it. Personally I am not happy about the name because I thought Nintendo was reaching for the more mature audience this time around, but this name says to me that they are hesitant to compete with Sony and Microsoft over here in the States. So Kudos Rob on the article and Roger you may want to consider the gray area between the black and white because not everything is as simple as you think.

It’s just a name, I don’t care if it was called project skidmark. I mean, what makes xbox or playstation a better name? I’ll reiterate the words above: Since Nintendo released this name the internet has been buzzing about the name, whether you love it or hate it, it’s free advertising and I doubt you’ll be forgetting the name anytime soon. All I want to see is quality games, that’s what is going to sell the system. Also, I believe that Wii does capture the gaming world well. We all play same games we all live in the same online communities and worlds, we are gamers…Wii, I think it fits perfectly.
