I took the photos based on the out-of-box experience of both devices. To make the Zune HD device look the way it does, all I had to do was turn it on. I didn’t have to go into any settings area to change the brightness or anything. So in fairness, I did the same with the iPod.

Using a media button and then swiping on a screen is *NOT* “no more difficult” than tapping a hardware rocker. I have my iPhone in a beltloop Monster LRG case. If I want to adjust volume, I just tap, without looking at, the hardware rocker that the case leaves exposed. I don’t need access to the screen at all, and i don’t need to touch two different surfaces on two different sides of the device 😉
