How should I keep an electronic journal?

I’m thinking about putting my life in writing for future generations of my family, but how can I ensure that if I do it electronic (MS Word) that it will still be readable in the future (80 years from now).

I want to be able to type it as opposed to handwriting it, because it would just be faster for me.  It would be cool for there to be some kind of journal “software” that creates auto-dated entry screens, for later printing.  Like say I’d like to print all journal entries from the year 2003, for example.

This is sort of possible through a blog, but that’s online, and it’s no longer private.  :(

80 years from now, MS will be running the world, so I’m sure writing it in Word will be no problem.

I would think even them knowing you had an interest in this thing called “Street Fighter” would’ve been something interesting and insightful.  A glimpse at another time.  There’s so much to write about: parents, school, love life, work, your car, your boss…anything!
