Yeah, and my brother does it, too. Instead of using iTrip, he bought an auxiliary cable, because his cd player has an AUX-IN line. 8)

Aux. input is definitely the way to go for this type of thing. I had a similar setup and loved it until I upgraded to a Phatbox. I would recommend something like these if your head unit does not have an aux input. There are others that might be better depending on what type of car you have. I think BMW and VW(?) have custom kits.

I would get a mount of some sort as well. There are tons out there, these are just the first from Google.

And if you’re not lookinging to spend that much I would get a cassette adapter over the FM transmitter.

I’m thinking of buying an iTrip and cup holder stand…anyone know of any drawbacks of using the iTrip?

Less sound quality. It’s like listening to the radio, versus a CD (or better) by using an aux cable.

Itrip works just fine—of course an aux cable is the way to go,  but most people don’t have the time, knowledge, or want to rerouote wires & take apart the dash otherwise IMO it look sloppy plugging into a front aux jack. I mean, either will work, it’s personal preference.

That’s the best way to go. My friend is using the iTrip and I don’t know if it’s the station he’s using or what but he seems to have to have everything (the stereo and iPod) turned up really loud to hear it and the sound quality sucks.

Oh and shouldn’t this be in Portable Gear?
