Well I know that the Internet itself would be dependent on other inventions like the computer chip, network cables, and other things, but overall I would say yeah.

Remember, there’s free porn there too.  👏

Wow, I’m surprised you weren’t offended by that little comment.  Man, Humbldtgrl is too cool for words.

I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest invention by man, but it definately is the most adaptable invention and therefore the most useful.

I think the most impressive piece of engineering is the combustion enginee—without it…there wouldn’t be alot of things…for example,  no coomputer chips could fly in from singapore, therefore no interent 😉

i say the car is the greatest invention.  How long would it take a man to ride his bicycle from cali to maybe new york?

I think I saw a special on the greatest invention on A&E once, and it said the printing press by Johannes Gutenburg (I think that was his name). Anyway, they said that thanks to him, intelligence was able to spread faster, more people were becoming well-read, etc. Without intelligence, you can’t have the Internet or other things 😉

You’re right. Some things *have* been invented by complete dolts 😛 The polka dot was invented on accident! LOL I know this ‘cause I dated a fashion major at one time.  8)

I remember when they did the history channels greatest mind of the millenium near 2000. Gutenburg was number one. Namely because without the printing press information travels slow and cannot be spread to the masses. Without the printing press Spaniards and other Europeans couldn’t have shamed away native religions and imposed their style of rule on others. Thanks Gutenburg, you bastard.

Whoa whoa, LOL how did you jump from the printing press to religious persecution so quickly?! LOL The printing press is responsible for as much good as there is bad. 😛

It’s up there.  But the wheel, written language, gunpowder, electricity, or the internal combustion engine?  Hard to say…  For sure it’s the greatest invention since we split the atom.

i dunno, I’ve read the other replies and I think it would be really hard to single something out as the most important invention ever.

Hold the phone!  I forgot about “The Clapper”.  The internet definitely takes a back seat to that one…  😊
