At what point do you say "I need to upgrade?"

half and half for me…sometimes i’ll use certain electronics til they die, like my good ol sony alarm clock from the 80’s. others, i upgrade for the sake of upgrading, which is what i’m prolly doing with digital cameras right now…two in 2.5 years, lol.

At what point do you say to your PDA, cell-phone, or music player: “I had enough.  I’m getting a new one!”  Is it really a busted up item, or peer pressure?

Definately not a busted up item 😊 Don’t even ask me about my cell phone. I had 4 phones in less than 2 years ... I only owned one PDA, an HP Jornada 568 and it still meets my needs, even though I don’t use it too much. I bought a lot of extras (WI-FI adapter) to make it useful. I think I’m still at the stage where I keep buying new stuff, not necesarely replacing old items.

I just got my first digical camera, a Canon s410 a few months ago. Got an ASUS M3N about a year ago, and a 17” widescreen Sharp LCD-TV a couple months ago.

Interesting.  Because I replaced my old phone even though I didn’t need to, just so that I had the same plan that my wife’s on.  Now I’m thinking about a new PDA, but I’m waiting for October because that’s when Palm usually announces new things and drops prices on existing models.

1)  The old one is broken.
2)  The old one does not have functionality that I deem as “essential”.
3)  I have a gadget hard on over something new and can’t control myself.

:D

Yeah, it’s a sickness.  I finally got control over my video card fetish - I was upgrading the video card in my computer 2-3 times a year for about 5 years straight!  Do the math, it’s scary…  :o
