Alright, alright.  But the Saturn was sprung on us wth a surprise release, an inflated price, a buggy VF, and severe lack of diverse titles.  The hardware power sucked, too.  Sega’s CEO screamed at his engineers over the weird two-chip contraption.  Man, this is the reason the Dreamcast failed…bad experiences with the previous system.

J/k, I love my DC.   SC1 forever, baby!

I’d say you were more on target with 3DO being the worst console out there. Personally, I love the saturn, but you’re right about the 2-chip mess. The engineers threw in an extra SH2 processor when they heard about the capabilities of the playstation. Big mistake, since people would have bought the games anyhow, evidenced by how successful the genesis and the NES were many, many years after they were obsolete. Because the developers had to deal with concurrency and deadlock issues between the 2 processors, games took longer to release for the saturn, and many 3rd party developers didn’t even bother wasting their time.

There are a few games that for me, make up for any inadequacy that the Saturn has:
Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Radiant Silvergun, Metal Slug, Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Marvel Vs. Street Fighter.
Oddly enough, these are 2d games and that’s where the saturn really shines.

About the Dreamcast, I’d say that piracy in Taiwan and China killed it. You could walk into a video store and buy a CDR copy of Dreamcast games for $2. This was everywhere in Taiwan, since they don’t honor international copyright laws.

Saturn still has a giant fanbase when it comes to japanese import games.

Sega Saturn?  What do you guys think?  Remember the 3DO, and also the Neo-Geo?  :D

Whoa now…i bought a 3DO the day it came out and still own it and play it.  The quality of games was unreal and if software support was there and the price was less, it wouldve dominated

Same goes with the Neo Geo.  Failed systems cause of finances and software support but they both rocked.

The saturn…well…it had Daytona USA and that rocked and Virtua Racer + Virtua Fighter

Its so sad that the two Sega systems failed because both were very innovative.  Both adapted highly to the CD-ROM format.  Seag Saturn even had the NetLink to get online.  Dreamcast was the first to have games be online and work very well (on dial up).  The graphics on both systems was amazing for the time and the VMU of the Dreamcast was a big innovation.

Yeah, online was supposed to be great!  But I had some pretty bad lag on the Dayton (DC) game.  NFL 2k1 was decent on it.  I still keep it because of one game: Marvel vs Capcom 2.  That thing is in-SANE.

The Jaguar was the first 64 bit system, and it bit the dust. Virtual boy also wasn’t ever hugely popular (i rented it from blockbuster, and it hurt my eyes).

Well, IMO I think the jaguar was one of the worse consoles ever, but I still bought one 😊  For being a 64-bit console, it sure didn’t compare to the N64.

The only game I have for jaguar is cybermorph (or whatever it’s called).  As for the Saturn, I think the saturn was pretty good.  It had great games like Sega Rally, Fighters Megamix, Guardian Heros, X-Men vs Street FIgher, Panzer Dragoon, etc.  Also, the graphics that it showed when you played an audio cd were far, far superior than what the playstation had.

I think the dreamcast is awesome.  The VMU was way cool, yes, talk about innovation.  Sega always seemed to have something cool up it’s sleeve.  The dreamcast was a good system, it had lots of potential, but people didn’t buy it because of the failures of the Sega Saturn and the Sega CD.  I guess consumers just didn’t want to bother with it.

Here’s a list of all the consoles I have, drool 😛 :
Atari 2600
original FAT gameboy ( I even have the game boy camera!!! LOL)
gameboy color
gameboy advance
game gear
Nintento
Super Nintendo
Virtual Boy
Nintendo 64
Atari Jaguar
Sega Genesis
Sega 32X
Sega CD
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
Playstation
Playstation 2
Xbox

and… *gasp* I think that’s it!  Ok you can slap me now..

Virtual Boy was the worst thing ever invented. I played some weird Wario Tennis thing on it at Target once…way too confusing and my eyes burned out.

I don’t think Saturn should be put down, it had some awesome games. Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force 3 are enough for me to still play it.  Sega was never the best at consoles but at software they kick ass.
