I want a PC in my car (ala mp3car.com). Then you have GPS, DVD player, MP3, and a nice big touch-screen LCD to do what you want. Will take some time and money, but I’ll get to it eventually.

For me, I think a GPS navigation system would be awesome - you can actually see where you are going on a screen while the car directs you. Very cool.

But what about OnStar?  :?

OnStar is best for emergency situations. You can use it as a phone, to get directions, make reservations etc. but those require a pretty steep monthly fee.

The DVD+LCD’s for me, but then I might forget I’m driving.  :D

I think I would stay away from OnStar, it has been admitted that they will & have let the government use the system to tap into and record what goes on in your vehicle (as well as tracking). Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I think I can deal with doing the above myself while maintaining my privacy.

that what you say about OnStar is true, count me out

Along with the Patriot Act, the government has no right invading my personal space and if i can avoid them doing it, then thats what i’ll do

for my own safety my @$$

I have done this in two cars.  If you do it yourself you don’t spend too much $$. It does take a pretty good chunk of time though.  We installed a mini ITX board into a custom box where the glovebox used to be, the power inverter was under the seat, the net jack, power button, and an eraser mouse we built into the center console.  Most costly part for the whole project was a 7” screen, which was mounted just below the head unit, which was also wired into the ‘puter.  Turned out really well.

take that, add wifi, thats what i want. itd be sweet to be able to update songs, gps info, etc. just by pulling into your garage. i know ive seen wifi garage/car systems for the car sound system, but not for gps nav yet.

Yeah, I never added Wifi, I’m thinking it could be done very easily.  We made a a really long enet cbl.  It was kinda funny to drag it out the front door across the yard and into the front window to update music on it.

My dad actually bought a new Lexus on friday that has the GPS system. ITs so cool. Like it tells you what road your on and you can set a destination and it tells you where and when to turn. Very handy if your new to a city.

this isnt his but its a pic of what the inside looks like.

Every car should have this by now.  :x   😢

NYC is a pretty big place and I could get lost in the 5 boroughs.  Especially since I don’t have a need for a car just yet.  Most people take the subway everywhere.

just about every car does have it now. accords have them.

what i’m waiting for is the gps system sony is developing. basically a 3-d gps system, so instead of overhead dot moving around, you can actually see where you’re headed to. its sorta like VR crazy taxi or something, lol. i’m not sure if its heads up display or console tho. either way, cool shizz.

“other’s? ” yeah right.  😛

My Brother has 2 screens set up on his Durango. I would do it to, except since I’m driving, I can’t really enjoy it.  :(
