Restocking fee’s they piss me off—mainly this is aimed at Best Buy and Circuit City—I deal with computers and networks all day at work, so when I come home and try to setup my network with equipment that is stated as working on Windows XP & Windows 2k—and doesn’t, when I try to return it, I guess they think it’s their right to take 15-25% of the purchase price because some fat ass no real skills with a computer slouch has to put it back on the shelf—The f*cking thing isn’t even open, give me ALL my money back jackoff.  If they sell it, it’s their responsibility to return the item [especially an unopened one]; don’t try and pawn it off on the manufacturer

/end rant

I’m writing one up in GMail right now. Probably nothing special, but I’m bored and unable to fall asleep at 2AM. 😛

Whenever I go to Kmart or WalMart to buy a game, there is never anyone in the department to open the case the games are kept in.  So I ask a few people and they don’t help so I wait there for 20 minutes and wind up not getting anything.

yeah, restocking fees blow. its basically to cover the cost of them selling it as “open box.” its quite craptastic. if its truely not your fault tho, then it just becomes an issue of how long you’re willing to argue with them. my friend spent 2 hours with a best buy rep for sprint, trying to get his phone replaced for free, since it was included in the warranty he paid for.after awhile, the manager finally came and said “ok, ok, just pick a phone and go.” it was great. you just gotta remember that the consumers have the power, they just have ot learn how to use it.

Restocking fees are negotiable, remember that.

The #1 reason I didnt shop at COMPUSA was the fee but if you ask them to not charge it with a good excuse, you can get out of it.

I know, I usually can talk whoever is working the counter into waiving them, but the fact is I shouldn’t even have to do that—running a business costs money you shouldn’t expect customers to pay you twice for a service would you?

Oh, i completely agree.  I only buy from stores that don’t have a restocking fee unless its absolutely necessary because the restocking fee is more of a hassle than anything and i try to avoid it like the plague.

Costco all the way for all major electronics.

I wish I had a COSTCO around me…I just go to best buy because of convenience—It’s like 5 mins from me, and I don’t feel like fighting with rush hour traffic [usually the only time I can get there]

We have something like Costco up here:  Sams.  Yeah yeah, I know it’s Walmart associated (personally I don’t give a ####, I still shop at Walmart) but they have pretty damn good prices on everything.  o_o It’s scary.

Hmm, Best Buy you are having problems with? Didn’t they run an add about not even asking you questions about taking a product back? Like, the guy is practicing his excuse, and then the guy that just got his money back walks by him and tells him, “That’s good, but you don’t need it” or something?

Well, I can’t second your complaint with Best Buy. I was there a few weeks back, exchanging DVD-R’s (I needed DVD+R) and there was no problems. It took me no longer than 5 or 6 minutes in and out. Then again it was a low price item, but I had opened one of the CD cases (and little did they know, made one of the DVD-R’s unusable because my burner wrote the Lead-In and disc info)...

MY WORST EXPERIENCE was with Circuit City.

Back about 6 years ago, when the MD saw it’s largest surge in broad-brand support, I got a (get this) Casio MD player and a Sony MD Recorder component for my stereo system〈to record the MD’s from CD’s〉. The Player was $100 US, but it looked like it was decent quality. WELL, Little did I know, the player was faulty as all hell. Within two months, the closing mechanism had broken (as well as the wired-remote it came with), and the case was bending (somehow). I take it to Circuit City to have it fixed(I was still under my 90 day warranty), and they claimed it was my fault it had fallen into disrepair…said that I was closing it “too” hard….RIGHT, I kept the damn thing in a friggin’ Caselogic “MiniDisc” padded/protected pouch…So, we pay them some money, and I get a (basically, probably refurbished) brand new one from Casio. I’m happy, until the exact thing happened not a month or two longer. I was no longer under warranty anymore, and I knew they wouldn’t help me. It was about this time, that my friend bought a MD player that looked exactly like mine only it was made by a different company(it was also a bluish tint, while mine was silver…as well as the remotes, which were identical as well, just different colors and insignias). So, it seemed that Casio and Circuit City put a known piss-poor product out there and let me suffer for it. Then, after they push a few off the assembly line, they sold the rights to the product to some no-name company, and guess what? My friend had the exact same problems!

I kept that MD player for awhile…screwing the screws in as often as possible to try and keep it together, and duct taping it shut. After I had bought about two or three remotes, I was pretty fed up. The remote concealed the connection for the headphones, and the connection kept failing (I knew because after I turned the MD on and then started it playing, I could plug my headphones directly into the headphone slot that was apart of the remote plug-in slot), so I tried something. I tried cutting off the headphone portion of the remote plug-in, but that unexpectedly ruined the remote and I haven’t listened to that MD player since.

But, I still have it somewhere. I want to take a picture and show you guys how crappy it looks 😛 You will laugh  It looks like some three year old boxer got ahold of it and bullishly decided silver was a sparring color 😢

So, I haven’t bought anything from Circuit City since…unless it’s too late and I am right near one and need some recordable media…OTHERWISE, I goto Best Buy or E-Bay. EBAY RULES :D

VERY long story ahead ripe with anger and grief:

A loooooong time ago I went over to CompUSA to buy a new graphics card and a new computer to put it in. I looked over the computers and thought the Sony Vaio’s were pretty nice(boy was I naive…well…I’m still naive). The computer I chose came with this really out of date, old and crusty PCI card that probably couldn’t display a resolution higher than 800x600.  So I looked over what they had. I opted for an Nvidia card since during this time I didn’t really know ATI was superior in pretty much every way. So, I left the store with my new GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and a brand spankin new comp to call my own all happy and giggling like a little school girl.

Little did I know the horrors that lay ahead of me. As soon as I got home I tore through that box searching for the rich gooey center. There it was…my new Vaio computer in all it’s purply glory. I heaved it out of it’s container ready to open up it’s innards and give this bad boy a new heart.

Silence followed…I sat, kneeling before my new toy, confused. This wasn’t right, I told myself. 1,2,3,4,5,6….confusion took me again as I was sure I hadn’t counted wrong. There were 4 PCI slots and 2 memory slots but, no AGP slot to be found. Here I sat with a new computer with no AGP slot and a new graphics card with no AGP slot to put it in. Oh…someone’s gonna pay for this…Only one thought crossed my mind. What in the hell is a computer doing in this day and age with no friggin AGP slot?!?! And why the hell wasn’t this mentioned?! No wait…it was mentioned…that it DID have an AGP slot! How on earth can someone who works in a computer store screw that up?

So the next day I had to go down to CompUSA to return this damn thing. I must have been standing in line for 15-20 min with one person standing in front of me. She stood there carrying one single item, a cd carrying case. She and the rest of the line stood there waiting, looking on as 3 store managers were at a register just talking away, asking each other if they wanted to go out for a beer later. Finally a sales rep stops by after placing the last item returned away somewhere in the back, now ready to take returns. Finally I can get on with my life.

It’s my turn. I explain my situation to the woman behind the counter. When I’m done, she looks at me with an expressionless stare and says plainly, “We have to charge an open box and restocking fee of 15%” What? Was this girl serious? She wants me to pay an extra $150 because some stupid sales rep mistakenly includes an AGP slot in the product description? This was ridiculous. I asked for one of the socializing managers. Surely they could be a pillar of reason. “We have to charge you a restocking fee.” I wasn’t hearing this. Most likely they weren’t either. An employee makes a mistake and I get footed with the bill? No. Just no. I gave him an incredulous look and the pompadour-clad manager simply said “That’s the rules”. That was it…I tried to remain civil. I asked for the regional manager’s number, Mr. Poofy’s superior.

He wrote down his number and gave it to me. With an apathetic tone, he said “He probably won’t be reachable for a few days”. With that he walked away.  I was furious. I told everyone flat out so everyone could hear: “There’s no way I’m shopping here again” After the display of complete incompetence, the other customers in the line agreed in unison. Even the woman behind me said that this would be the last time she would ever step foot in this store again. She told me the wait was inexcusable and all she wanted to do was return some cd-r’s. At least I think I made an impression with some people. As I walked out I noticed Mr.I-came-out-of-the-50’s with his entourage of useless managers all having a leisurely smoke. “Restocking fee”...I murmured…

After putting the computer back in my car sure as hell that I didn’t want to pay any restocking fee, I decided to speak with the sales guy who I originally bought it from. At least he was helpful. One good note in all of this. He double checked the specs on the Vaio both on the display tags and the store inventory and the mistake showed up in everything. I was able to get my refund but not without a lot of hassle. I returned home glad that it was over….or was it? Think the story’s over? Not quite…

A few day’s later I decided on a Dell(which I still have to this day) after my brother recommended them. I decided on a nice little 2.4Ghz P4 a 400mhzFSB with 512mb of Ram and I made damn sure it had an AGP slot. A couple days later it had arrived at my doorstep…wow that was quick. I rushed into my room finally ready to slap that GeForce in. I tore open the plastic, shredding it. I pulled the cardboard sleeve carrying the precious card carefully out. Hmm…that’s awfully small. Maybe it’s supposed to look like that. But something told me this was not going to end well. I tried to shrug it off and removed the old graphics card and slid the new card into it’s slot. I booted the computer, no hassles so far. It came preinstalled with Windows? Cool…less work for me. Ok…time to change some settings to my liking, no prob. Doo dee doo, right click, properties…click settings and…WHAT THE HELL?!??! What do I see under that little picture of the desktop? “NVIDIA GeForce 3” 3!!!!! Oh my god…

So, guess what? It’s back to CompUSA. I knew this was going to end very badly. Restocking fee this, oh you just replaced the card and want a new one…ugh…I almost didn’t want to deal with it anymore. But I went in. I told the customer service rep that I bought this GeForce 4 from here brand new, unopened and out comes this GeForce 3. I even made sure it was a GF3 by benchmarking it and looking for identifying marks. Well…he took it back. No questions asked. At least I got that much. I walked out with a new GF4, hopefully. I walked to my car, went in and immediately ripped open the wrapping, just to make sure. Yup, totally different than the last card with a little logo that said “GeForce 4 Ti 4600”. Ugh…I don’t ever want to go through all that again.

A while back ago I ordered a new hard drive from this company that I can’t even remember.  Well, when I placed my order, they immediately sent me an email saying they were out of stock, and it would be a one week wait. I was okay with that, but then after a week, nothing. Two weeks, nothing. I called them up and they said it was going to be another two weeks.  Another two weeks, and nothing.  I got kinda curious about this company, so I did some research online.  All I found were complaints, about people ordering, and never receiving their order, and no customer service.  I wrote emails, and received no response. I called up the customer service number, but it was a just a voice recording saying to leave a message.  So I ended up calling the number to place orders, and guess what… they answered.  They actually gave me my money back.  I guess I’m one of the few lucky ones.  It really thought me a good lesson.  Before, I was so naive when I saw a good deal at an online store.  So now I research before I buy or buy from NewEgg.
