1080p and 1080i are both much better than 720p. Don’t let somebody sell you on a 720p. The price difference between a 720p and a 1080i/1080p really isn’t that much, but most stores will try to push a 720p because they are much more prone to break down over time. My wife and I searched all over for a good deal on an HDTV and the absolute best place with the best prices that we found was, ironically, Best Buy. Even still, after looking at the Phillips website, the 34” widescreen with the HDMI input is a tremendous deal. That TV might run about $1100 anywhere else.
