Did you know that if you turn on the UAC in vista that it protects against rootkits? I did not know this and was reading up on it. When UAC is turned on, the software on your computer is running without administrative permissions. If you or your computer attempts to perform an action that requires administrative privileges, UAC pops up a window asking if you want to change to administrator so the action can be completed. It can be annoying and Microsoft can do some things to make it more user friendly, but thats better then having a rootkit in your computer.
