We were pleasantly surprised at this Computex 2008 when we saw Gigabyte’s new convertible tablet, the M912. At $650, with an 8.9-inch screen and 160gb HDD, it promises to be an excellent competitor to the HP Mini-Note. Gigabyte’s Brendon Lo says that the M912 should be out by July 2008. We’re looking forward to getting our hands on one!

This does sound like a competitor with the HP Mini-Note, but the thing that it does lack is style. I really really do not like the white casing on these ultra-portable/cheap laptops. That’s kinda what makes me like the hp mini-note more than the Asus EEE (white version) and this one. The cover on this kinda looks like retro tiles to go in a bathroom or something. It does however, make it a very strong competitor with the other ultra-portable/ cheap laptops because of it’s pretty good specs AND it’s tablet capabilities with Windows Vista. One thing that I wish this did come with is 2gb of ram. Bumping it up an extra gig would definitely make it the favorite over the other laptops.

I have to agree I dont like the white casting either. It gets dirty and you can see it better. I like darker colors myself. I do like the size though would be easy to carry for traveling reasons. I like the specs on it, the thing that attracts me to it would be the small size, it could fit just about anywhere and I like that alot.

The price range is reasonable.  My concern about tablets is how sturdy the pivot hinge is—I had bad experiences with the hinges on a Dell laptop.
