Hello sharkhead,

You are not the only member loosing your posts.  Everyone else is losing their posts too!  This is because of all the spam topics that were created.  A lot of people took part in these topics and these topics had to be deleted because they were spam.

It’s easy to lose track of where you have posted… we didnt have a lot of good options of topics to post in so we took what we could get.  But don’t worry, everyone is losing their posts, not just you, so all that matters really is how you are relative to the field (which you are the one with the highest number of posts now, so I think you are fine).  But yeah, I was shocked when my numbers fell by ~30 after I posted earlier today! (happened twice actually)

Perhaps this topic and all the posts within this topic will be deleted also.  Before you make a topic make sure you check within the other topics and make sure there is no duplicate topic/post.  There have been other topics/posts discussing the same topic that you discussed.

Why do that? Then everybody will have to actually contribute to the forum and topics at hand instead of rewording an earlier topic multiple times to get points for it or digging up posts that are 4 years old.

smileyxx i really am trying to
even buckeyefanatic, dooomkultus, shady freak, sushrukh and littlebull have told me im not one of the ones posting bad threads or replies while half of them are being accused by someone out in the open every few hours
shan gee, there are posts similar but this one was purely meant to discuss the loss of points, because right now i see that many people are talking about it in unrelated threads so i wanted to organize a bit instead of looking for conversations where theyre not supposed to be

I only lost about 20 points total so far… I guess I’m a relatively low spammer ;D
And I warned sushrukh about his spam threads. So it’s no surprise they were deleted, I wasn’t the only one that thought they were spam. Sheesh, and I was reported for harrassing him. <_<

Anyways, I’m glad at a few points sacrifice all the spam things are being removed. They are so fricking annoying T___T

yeah, unfortunately you and i took time to reply in threads that were deleted as spam
i know that not our faults because because theyre barely deleting any replies, rather the whole threads and neither of us have posted that many of those
so we didnt even have the opportunity to spam

I’ve lost about 30 points, but I don’t really care. I’m not here to try and win the Dragon at least not with this site, its just not worth it. The reason lies within the admin of the site. They didn’t take the time to come up with a list or rules before the contest started other than post and whoever has the highest point total at the end wins. They were way to vague about it when the contest first started. What could have been a great contest and great publicity for the site has turned into a total flop in my opinion. They had well over a month to come up with the idea of what they wanted to do for the contest, the rules pertaining to the contest and it didn’t happen. The official rules weren’t posted in the forum of what was allowed and what really wasn’t along with the points system for such posting weren’t announced till after the contest started. In my opinion that shows either laziness on the admins part or that the contest required more effort than what was given and should have been axed for something less demanding. Anyways thats opinion, like it or hate it.

i will agree with that,
but i dont think it was laziness- i think they just werent expecting it
its only about 5 or 6 people who are posting a lot but to tell you the truth i think all 5 or 6 of us have ruined the forums
i am including myself, i will admit i was part of it when i was supporting it all by replying to spam threads and i should have known better
im still going to post for the contest, but now im going to try to contribute threads instead of replies
in all areas of the forums, and i mean topics that really are good for the community to talk about

@ smiley
i see sour grapes situation.
adnru told many times clearly not to spam, also even though the official rules were posted a day later, the initial video was pretty indicative of whats to come.
i think you got spoilt by having to enter your email in lucky draw situation in previous contests.

I’m not sour about anything. At least with a random draw like some of the others everybody is on an even playing field unlike here when some of you apparently don’t have a life and can sit on here 24 hours a day and do nothing but post while some of us actually have responsibilities to take care of and a life outside of the computer/internet.

I think Gear Live has finally started cleaning up the spam around here, and yes, I believe we all have lost some here and there, that’s for sure. I don’t know how they will still pick the final decision/winner though, will they look at just the points or look at the points and posts? Anyways, I think it’s great that they did clear up around here and that Victor, one of the moderators/admins has been posting more and interacting with us.

if you look in the announcements section andru made a post that their web host was pulling a backup for them and they were to mount it in a temporary database instead, they accidentally wrote over the LIVE database with one that is two days old. go on over there and read more about it.

Smiley - try this…

I made sure we did a video showing off everything, because I felt that a list wouldn’t do it justice. We unboxed the computer in one video, and we talked about the contest in another. In the video, we stated that we wanted people to participate in our community and not spam. We also said the person with the most points would win. Those are the rules.

I have been in the middle of moving for about 6 days. That takes some commitment. Hey, if you think I am lazy because I have been hauling boxes back and forth, packing and unpacking, for hours a day, instead of sitting in front of the computer to get a list of contest rules up on day one, my bad.

The rules were stated in the video. The only thing missing was specific point values - those appeared on day two. My bad again.

You mention that there is no even playing field, because some people don’t have jobs, and can therefore sit on the site 24/7 and post. Guess what? People that do that are considered spammers. They won’t win. In fact, I am fairly sure that the winner WILL end up being someone who actually CONTRIBUTED to our community as opposed to someone who stayed on the site all day posting.

Anyhow, to each his own.

It’s in the announcement thread, they weren’t cleaning out spam just now. Although, I am very sad and disappointed right now, but what can you do. We can’t blame Gear Live. I had a day off my university lectures today and I decided to post the majority of the day. I lost 75 posts in a few seconds and well, as you all probably know, all those 75 posts were about 5 or 6 sentences long, haha. I guess I’ll just pick myself up and keep on posting. 😉

That really sucks, and it happened at the wrong time too. how do they accidentally write over the LIVE database? the chance of that happening is 5/100. when they were recovering the data, i saw my points drop and i was wondering why, then all of a sudden it went back up, which was funny in a way. I thought it was a bug until i read the post… lol

NO idea how they did that quite frankly…but we lost at least 12 blog posts for the day across our sites, not to mention all the comments and forum posts. I am beyond angry at the moment.

Sorry guys.

Its not your fault and people make mistakes. Nothing you can do about it. My points had done the same thing and then I thought that maybe you guys done some major cleanup…lol. But then I had seen that announcement. Sorry that you lost all your work though, from going around here on the site I know you work hard and it takes your time to do that.

but not all people with high post counts are spamming =(
i posted a lot but it was to be part of a conversation in the threads that were interesting
if you notice, i didnt start many threads because i know that most of the time i wouldnt be able to think of what to write
some people started over 120 new ones over only 6 days, thats insane!
but almost all of mine are replies that were part of conversations, and some other users are the same…

You should get something out of them… a free month of server hosting? lol. They made Gear Live Suffer, they should pay the price.

I come here on the site most of the day but there are times when I am not here, I have been doing some running on and off, that and I do training on another site for malware. I actually have been doing other things on the site to, like watch the videos and go to the different sections on the site and read the articles on the homepage, I actually enjoy being on this site and have learned things so I hope you dont consider me a spammer because of that I have been posting and make comments but i dont just do that on here to. I just seen that you said the ones that are on here all day posting and didnt want you to think that when I post a comment or reply that I was just doing it to boost points I am actually trying to contribute.

You have so much educational things on here, I like to learn things like this and the new stuff i like to see what they come up with now a days. I love computerized gadgets and the things they do, I think they do some pretty cool things! My favorite video so far was the one on HP in a garage, that was interesting to know!

You have a pretty cool website here and I love to be on it, Thanks for all the info you do on here the consumer can learn about a product before they go out and buy it, or learn about something they didnt know about it.

Moving and having to run a contest is not an easy thing to do. Your original videos were quite clear about the contest, NO Spam. most points wins.

Getting the point values up the next day was great (something to look forward to). I especially like the bonus points that could be very helpful.

You have to remember this is just a contest this site will be here when its over. and having someone delete your backups sh—happens and I think everyone here realizes that. I personally am happy that a lot of the spam is gone.

thank you
