I though I had a thread where I asked about lenses, but I just cant find it…

Anyway, I’m looking to get some new glass for my camera. I know roughly what I want, but I’m a bit unsure.

I already have the kt lens (non IS version of the EF-S 18-55), and want something a bit better. I think a longer lens will be good, as I like to take closeup pictures of stuff.

I have narrowed it down to:

1: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
2: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

The 70-200 have a closer minimum focus distance, and is faster on the long end, while the 70-300 is able to zoom more. (But have 120cm focusing distance, as opposed to 100 on the 70-200).

So the big question is, Which of there two will be best for close ups, and is the extra price for the 70-200 worth it? And how effective is the IS on the 70-300 (as in enough to compensate for not-as-good optics)?

And lastly: Anything else I should consider?
