Well Pheonix was one day late to land but it did it, and now the probe is on mars.
The craft is there for 3 months, and the aim at this one is to probe the dirt less than a foot from the surface
what are they looking for?
ice, even small amounts, that would help them determine whether mars was able to sustain even primitive life
some of the terrain shows signs of contracting and expanding leading them to believe it was caused by ice under the surface
however, some places will be protected as preserves and wont be touched
so far the probe is reported to be in great condition and all sounds like its going well for the time being
this was a $420 million project and its led by University of Arizona, Tucson, and managed by JPL.
