For all the criticism of Microsoft and its security flaws, the software giant has made an impressive turnaround. While Vista has been derided for a variety of reasons, most would agree that it?s much more secure than Windows XP. Recently, a hacker conference showed just how vulnerable systems running Mac OS X are, due to their slow rate of patches. The Mac machine was hijacked within 10 minutes, while the Linux and Windows boxes survived the day.

Now an even worse security flaw has been found in some of the basic code used by a wide variety of Linux security programs. The error originated back in May 2006 when workers on the open-source security project committed a grave and unrealized error.

WRONG!!! MICROSOFT DID NOT MAKE A TURNAROUND!

Are you talking about the pwn2own hacker competition, where the Macbook Air got hacked first? Well, FYI, Microsoft was the main sponsor for the event. FYI#2…. You get to keep what you hack. -> Everyone would target the Macbook Air over the stupid Windows computer. Unix and it’s derivatives are far more secure than anything you’ll ever find.

I mean, this is how you get a virus on Linux:
1. Find a virus
2. Download the virus, probably the tarball
3. Untarball it
4. Run it as root
5. Get what you deserve.

For Windows… I’m sure we all had a malware experience sometime in our lives. -rolls eyes-

I thought that OSX is secure but looks like nothing is secure.Vista looks like more secure than XP & OSX then.ACtually this was not a competition.Someone challenged someone that Mac OSX can’t be hacked but it got hacked. 😉

Wait… -is embarrassed- My mistake, sorry ;P

Vista really is more secure with the UAC thing, but ugh so many nag screens!!! 😠

Anything can be hacked… even the calculator lol.

But still, Unix still is the most secure thing out there. I can’t even update anything without entering the root password.

as time goes by some os will get more popular thus increasing the hacker who want to break it…
more popular os = more vulnerability
less popular os = less vulnerability

thats true, the more people use it the more people will want to hack it due to the amount of people they can affect on the same os.

Yeah that’s UAC.

UAC stands for User Access Control & it’s pretty annoying.

In that hacker competition windows was compromised due to a third pary software vulnerability, and mac too i think. So it would be harsh to blame Microsoft. Also you are right mac air was hip at that time so everyone would go for it,but that doesn’t escape the fat that it WAS compromised, you only need 1 vulnerability to ruin stuff.
