I’ve always used WinRAR for my RAR and ZIP files. It quickly extracts all my ZIP/RAR downloads and is very easy to use. My trial has actually been expired for a while now but it still works. You can get it at http://www.rarsoft.com. Whenever I download big ZIP/RAR files it can be a pain to use Windows to Extract all the files. WinRAR seems to accomplish the task more quickly and easily than Windows! What software do you use for Extracting/Uncompressing your RAR/ZIP/TAR files? Is it free?

it can do
* Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
* Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, MSI, WIM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS

Winzip is pretty bloated, and Winrar can do everything Winzip can and more. However, 7-zip is the way to go, even though I do wish it could zip to seperate archives.

Excellent! That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s free and it can unzip a lot of different types of files! All the other software I kept finding like WinAce/WinRAR/WinZip were not free. I just downloaded 7-Zip and it’s really easy to use. All I need to do is unzip files that I download, so I don’t see any point in purchasing WinRAR/WinZip or any other file archivers. Thanks for sharing. 😊

I definitely use WinRar on all my computers as its fast and free (except for the nag screen after 40 days I believe). I remember the days of WinZip though… does anyone still use that piece of software?

Who the heck does, unless they haven’t updated their computers in a long time… lol.
WinRar is still useable after 40 days, the nag screen won’t be present if you just use the context menu. 😉

Good point—I dont really mind nag screens anyway. Especially if its only once a day or even less. I’d rather have to deal with nag screens than actually pay for the software! After all, there’s no way I am actually going to pay for software to unzip or unrar a file

I have used Winzip, 7-Zip, and Winrar. I liked Winrar, since it has so many more options over WinZip. however, if you are looking for a free program that is super easy to use, I would recommend ZipItFree. http://www.zipitfree.com
You can add and extract files with 2-3 clicks, vs winzip and winrar. It also supports 15 formats. check out the site for the full details.

I’ve used ZipCentral, Winzip, Winrar and 7-Zip. I love Winrar’s interface, but you have to pay a hefty $30 dollars for it, when you can get the same function for free in 7-zip. i won’t use ZipCentral or Winzip, because it feel that they’re too resource demanding, it slows down my right click menu. (because of the right click menu integration)
