my dad got me a sony clie pda for my birthday 2 years ago.  this week, the battery suddenly died.  it retains its charge for a few seconds and turns off, even when plugged into the wall.  my dad bought an extended warranty because he heard that this happens, but sony stopped making clies a year ago.  what do you think best buy is going to do? i loved my pda, so i hope they give me a shiny new one like this: http://www.palmone.com/us/products/handhelds/tungsten-e2/
has anyone else had this happen? what do they do? i guess i will find out when my dad finds the warranty papers.

as long as you have the warranty papers, they will probably replace it with one similar to it.  If you got the mid range clie, you’ll prolly get a mid range palm, since clies are defunct now. If you got a high end clie, well…you get the idea….or they might give you store credit for the original price of the clie, and you can use that to buy another pda.

i wasn’t aware that people still used pdas, lol. I had a clie and used it for about 2 semesters then gave up. As neat as it was, its just a transitional technology that never developed into a powerful device it could have been. so much potential not met. i can see why people use pda phones, but a regular pda just ended up being more hassle than what it should of been.

well, get a linux based one with 64mb RAM, and a 400+MHz processor, and you have a pretty powerfull computer in a very small package.

there’s more to them than just PIM stuff…

[quote author=“mattmag”]what do you think best buy is going to do?

when my phone was having problems and they found it toe be defective, best buy didn’t have the same model instock, so they let me choose between a phone of the same price, or get the retail price of the phone off taken of of any other phone I wanted.  That’s probably what they’ll offer you since they won’t have it instock, so it would be a good time to upgrade to a better pda like the one ben listed.  😊

yeah, you dont see them all that much anymore, but there are a lot of nice apps for palm os that you cant get anywhere else.  plus, it attracts peoples’  attention which is somewhat nice.

cool, now i can finally outdo my friend who bought one slightly better than mine just to one-up me.  one with wifi would be nice; web browsing on my psp is damn annoying.

now i just need to wait until my dad finds the papers.
