(posting this here because nobody reads the other boards)

Thanks to one of gearlive’s front page articles, I purchased a belkin wireless G router for $25 from buy.com without having to do any rebates.  Now that it’s here, I’m starting to realize that I’ll have to shell out more than I thought for a desktop network card.

My Qs:  does anybody know if I can use any desktop wireless g card, or does it have to be by Belkin?  Also, are some wireless desktop cards better than others?  I’d like to spend a max of $25 getting a card that will work well for about 30 feet and through 4 walls, preferably with no rebates involved.

any help is appreciated in finding one!

keep this in the right section. the “nobody reads the other threads” excuse is not good enough.

Sheesh… even when you make a whole thread addressing this problem and *specifying* this excuse, people *still* don’t read.. lol, crazy

The people that will end up giving you an answer look in these threads so keep the posts where they belong…

Um any card will work for the most part.  The router isn’t like a Speedboost or something like that, right?  Just go to Newegg.com and find a cheap one.  Its always best to go with the same brands especially if you aren’t computer savvy b/c if there is problems they can’t just say, must be that Linksys router.  That being said I like Linksys b/c they use all Cisco equipment.

I have a Netgear router but i also endorse all cisco products.

I have that router ( I too bought it thanks to Andru).

Any wireless card will work as stated before. You can even use an USB adapter. Linksys is great (cisco). But the Belkin router is just as great. No problems thus far.  😊

I would say to get a linksys card, unless you ever plan on tooling around with linux. If you do decide to go with linux, netgear all the way. if you want ease of use, then don’t go too cheap.
