what are your current permissions on your avatars folder?  you may need to set them to 777 or something.

NO NO NO…you don’t want CHMOD 777 on any folder, that woud be bad news—everyone on the face of the earth could then view contents without actually authenticating to your site. Make sure they are 755 Permissions, you’ll have drwxr-xr-x access on that folder which is how it should be configured.

An error would help, but for the meantime, you could always FTP to your site, and go to the following area—

http://www.domain.com/forums/images/avatars/gallery/

Just create subfolders under the gallery folder based on however you want them to show up IE: Movies / Games etc and then copy the images into the appropriate folders.

thats not true.
people being able to view it from the web would depend on your apache configuration of directory listings.

777 would only give all users on your system read, write, execute access. not everyone on the face of the planet.

The users logged in right?  Because I set it to 755 and my avatars folder wouldn’t work on a test forum I put up.  Then I changed it to 777, and it works perfectly now.

755 works fine for allowing access to the avatars gallery.  This is how my forums are configured.  Also, I understand that it would depend on your apache configuration, but unless you have the server in your house, and have absolute control [which I’m sure gohan doesn’t] configurations can change at any time…I just don’t feel like taking the chance.
