i just called in to get a handset upgrade, got myself a motorola v600, for basically 20 bucks.
v600 (169.99) - one month free (50.00) - mail in rebate (100.00)= 19.99
in addition to that, the customer retention rep also upgraded my existing plan (get more 600, unlim nights and weekends) to the “get more plus” (1000 min, unlim nights and weekends) for free. so basically, i’m getting the 59.99 plan for 39.99, so i save 20 bucks a month.
funny thing is, when i spoke to the first cust. rep., she was basically like “sorry, 199.99 is the lowest price we can offer, there’s nothing we can do” Then, I asked if I had to give advance notice when cancelling (since i’m month to month right now, contract ended a few months back) and she responded with “so…what price range were you looking for for that v600?” and sent me directly to customer retention rep. i’m sure it helped that people are going to cingular after the merger, so they probably got scared that i wanted to cancel.
